Modern Forms FR-W1809-54L-MB – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can the Modern Forms Lotus 54 inch fan be installed on a covered patio or outdoors?
Yes. The Lotus FR-W1809 carries a Wet Location rating, with UL, cUL, CSA, ETL and cETL listings, so it can go on covered patios, porches, or exposed outdoor locations as well as indoors.
2) Will the Lotus 54 inch ceiling fan work on a sloped ceiling?
Out of the box the Lotus mounts on slopes up to 30 degrees using its included 4.5 inch downrod. For a steeper pitch, 32 to 45 degrees, you need the XF-SCK Slope Ceiling Kit, which is sold separately.
3) What do I have to choose when ordering the Modern Forms FR-W1809 Lotus fan?
Two choices. Finish, Matte Black or Matte White, and LED color temperature, 2700K, 3000K or 3500K. Both finishes are offered in all three color temperatures. The color temperature is fixed at the factory, so pick it to match the other fixtures in the room before ordering.
4) Is a wall control or remote included with the Lotus 54 inch DC fan?
A battery-operated Bluetooth remote with a wall cradle (Part No. F-RCBT-WT) ships with the fan. A hardwired wall control is not included. If the job calls for a wired switch station, that gets specified separately.
5) Is a 54 inch 3-blade fan enough air movement for a large living room?
The Lotus moves up to 6034 CFM across six speeds from its reversible DC motor, with a 54 inch span and 13 degree blade pitch. That is enough for living rooms and great rooms; the reversible motor also lets you run it in winter to push warm air back down.
6) Can the light on the Lotus fan be the only light source in a room?
Plan on it as supplemental. The integrated LED luminaire puts out 1100 lumens at 90 CRI with a flood beam spread and continuous dimming. That is accent and ambient level light for a living room or bedroom, not a substitute for a full lighting layout in a large space. There is also an optional cover to conceal the luminaire if you want fan-only appearance.
7) If the LED burns out on this fan, do I have to replace the whole fixture?
No. The Lotus uses a replaceable LED module rather than a sealed array, so the light engine can be swapped without pulling the fan down. It is rated at 50,000 average hours.
8) What is the electrical load for the Modern Forms Lotus FR-W1809?
30W total at 120V covering both the DC motor and the LED. It is Energy Star rated, so load calculations on a multi-fan install stay small, a practical point if you are putting a dozen on one circuit in a multi-family or hospitality job.
9) Does the Lotus fan work with Alexa or Google Home?
Yes. It runs on the free Modern Forms app over Bluetooth and integrates with Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, SmartThings, Control4, and Josh AI. The app adds speed control, breeze mode, adaptive learning, and grouping, which is how you run several fans in a great room together.
10) Will the Lotus blades hold up outdoors without warping?
The three blades are molded ABS, not wood, and come in Matte Black or Matte White. ABS plus the Wet Location listing is what makes this one suitable for humid or exposed locations where a wood-blade fan would swell and fall out of balance. Each blade measures 23.5 inches.
11) Is the Modern Forms Lotus fan ADA compliant?
No. The Lotus FR-W1809 is not ADA compliant. On projects where ADA protruding-object or reach-range requirements apply to the control or fixture, specify accordingly.
12) Is there an installation guide for the FR-W1809 Lotus fan?
Yes, Modern Forms publishes an installation guide for the Lotus, available as a PDF on the product record. It covers the downrod and canopy mounting and the slope ceiling limits.
