1) Will the WAC HHT-826L track head fit my existing track, or do I need J or L track?
The HHT-826L is built with an H-style track adapter, so it only mounts to H track. WAC offers the same Dune low voltage head in H, J/J2, and L configurations, so if your run is J/J2 or L track you need the matching version instead of this one, the adapter will not seat in a different channel.
2) Does the WAC HHT-826L low voltage track head come with a lamp?
No lamp is packed with it. The head takes an MR16 LED lamp with a GY5.3 bi-pin base, ordered separately, seated in a ceramic bi-pin socket. A clear glass lens and screw-on lens cap are included, so the only thing you have to add to finish the job is the lamp itself.
3) Do I need a separate low voltage transformer for this WAC track head?
No external transformer or remote magnetic supply is needed. The transformer is concealed inside the fixture and runs off the 120 VAC track feed, 50/60Hz. It has a 1W minimum load, which is what lets it drive a low wattage LED MR16 without the lamp dropping out.
4) What dimmer works with the WAC HHT-826L, and how low will it go?
It dims on an ELV (electronic low voltage) dimmer, down to 15 percent of output. Do not put it on a magnetic low voltage or standard incandescent dimmer, the built-in electronic transformer wants an ELV control. Dimming range is 100 to 15 percent.
5) Can I use the WAC HHT-826L track head in a covered exterior walkway or a bathroom?
No. It is Dry Location Listed and rated indoor only, so covered exteriors, shower areas, and anywhere subject to condensation are out. Operating range is -4F to 104F. For a damp or wet location you need a fixture carrying that rating.
6) Does the HHT-826L meet California Title 24 for a retail or hospitality project?
Yes on both counts a California spec asks about: the fixture is Title 24 compliant and CEC listed. It is UL and cUL listed and ADA compliant as well. It does not carry Energy Star.
7) How much can I aim a Dune HT-826 spot after it is installed?
The head gives 350 degrees of horizontal rotation and 90 degrees of vertical tilt, with a loop back aiming arm so you can re-point it by hand without tools. That is what makes it workable for retail display walls where merchandise moves and the beam has to follow.
8) How much clearance does this track head need below the ceiling, and how far does it project?
Plan on about 5.5 inches of drop from the track and roughly 4.5 inches of width, with a 3 inch length and a 2.5 inch head diameter. In a low ceiling or a tight soffit that 5.5 inch height is the number that decides whether the aiming arm has room to swing.
9) What finishes does the WAC Dune HT-826 low voltage head come in if I need to match existing heads?
Three finishes: black (HHT-826L-BK), white (HHT-826L-WT), and brushed nickel (HHT-826L-BN). Black and white are electrostatically powder coated on the die-cast aluminum body. If you are infilling a run that already has black heads on it, order BK and the body finish will read the same.
10) What is the maximum lamp wattage I can put in this WAC low voltage track head?
The fixture is rated 75W, so an MR16 up to that wattage is within the head's rating. In practice an LED MR16 draws far less, and the built-in transformer's 1W minimum load means even a very low draw LED lamp will start and dim properly.
11) Is this track head durable enough for a hospitality or retail space where staff re-aim it often?
It is built for that kind of handling. Body is die-cast aluminum, the track adapter and transformer case are polycarbonate, the socket is a ceramic bi-pin, and heat resistant rubber grips sit over the rear socket assembly so a hot head can be re-aimed by hand. WAC lists residential, retail, commercial, and hospitality as the intended applications.
