Yes. The Pop-In 4 inch round 5CCT downlight is sold as a remodel fixture, so it goes into an existing ceiling cutout. The electrical box sits on the back of the fixture, which means you wire it at the opening rather than pulling a separate can or J-box into the cavity. A new construction frame is available if you are roughing in before the ceiling goes up.
2) Is the WAC Pop-In 4 inch downlight safe to install in a ceiling with insulation against it?
Yes. The Pop-In 4 inch round downlight is IC rated, so insulation can contact the housing directly, and it is airtight, so it will not leak conditioned air into an attic. 3) How do you change the color temperature on the WAC Pop-In 4 inch 5CCT downlight?
The fixture is field switchable across five color temperatures: 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, 4000K and 5000K. You set it at the fixture during install, so one part number covers a warm 2700K residential unit and a 5000K back-of-house or garage unit. For property managers that means one SKU on the truck instead of five, and you can match new fixtures to whatever the rest of the building is already running.
4) Will the WAC Pop-In 4 inch downlight run on 277 volt commercial power?
Yes. Input is 120-277 VAC, 50/60Hz, so the same fixture works on 120V residential circuits and on 277V lighting branch circuits in commercial buildings. The driver is concealed inside the fixture, so there is no remote driver to find a home for above the ceiling.
5) What kind of dimmer works with the WAC Pop-In 4 inch LED downlight?
It dims on ELV and on TRIAC (forward phase) dimmers, 100 percent down to 5 percent on either. There is no 0-10V control input, so if your project is specced around a 0-10V control system this is the wrong fixture. On a retrofit where you are keeping an existing TRIAC wall dimmer, it will work, though LED-rated dimmers with a low enough minimum load are what get you to the bottom of the range.
6) How much light does a 4 inch WAC Pop-In downlight put out, and is it enough for general room lighting?
Up to 1080 delivered lumens from 12 watts, with center beam candlepower up to 1309. That is a general-purpose output for a 4 inch aperture: enough for kitchens, corridors, offices and unit lighting at normal spacing. CRI is 90, so color rendering holds up in retail, healthcare and hospitality spaces where 80 CRI product gets rejected.
