Modern Forms FR-W2404-60L-MB – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can the Modern Forms Spinster ceiling fan be installed on a covered outdoor patio?
Yes. The Spinster carries a Wet location rating and is UL, cUL, CSA, ETL and cETL listed, so it can go on covered porches and patios as well as indoors. Wet rating means it tolerates direct exposure to water, which is what makes it suitable for an open-sided covered patio rather than only a sealed porch ceiling.
2) Will the Spinster 60-inch fan work on a sloped ceiling?
Out of the box the Spinster mounts on slopes up to 30 degrees. For a steeper pitch, between 32 and 45 degrees, you need the XF-SCK Slope Ceiling Kit, which is a separate order.
3) Is a wall switch included with the Spinster smart fan, or just a remote?
A battery-operated Bluetooth remote with a wall cradle is included (Part No. F-RCBT-WT). A hardwired Bluetooth wall control, Part No. F-WCBT-WT, is not included and has to be ordered separately. If you are specifying units for a rental or commercial space where a loose remote will walk off, budget the hardwired wall control per fan.
4) Can the Spinster LED color temperature be changed after install?
No. Color temperature is fixed at the factory and chosen at time of order: 2700K, 3000K or 3500K. If you are matching fans to downlights already installed across a property, pick the Kelvin that matches before you order, because there is no field adjustment.
5) How big a room will a 60-inch Spinster fan actually move air in?
Blade span is 60 inches with three 26.5 inch ABS blades at a 16 degree pitch, and the DC motor pushes up to 6258 CFM across 6 speeds. That airflow suits large living rooms and great rooms; the six-speed range lets you run it low in a bedroom without the draft.
6) Does the Modern Forms Spinster work with Alexa and Google Home?
It pairs over Bluetooth with the free Modern Forms app and works with Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, Control4 and Josh AI. Control4 and Josh AI support is the one that matters if you are integrating into a whole-house system rather than just voice control.
7) Can I dim the light on the Spinster fan with my existing wall dimmer?
The light is a 30W integrated LED module, fully dimmable, but dimming is handled through the Bluetooth remote, app or the optional F-WCBT-WT wall control rather than a standard wall dimmer. Wire the fan to a non-dimmed 120V switched circuit and dim through the control.
8) Is the LED in the Spinster fan bright enough to be the only light in a room?
The integrated luminaire puts out 521 lumens at 90 CRI with a flood spread. That is accent-level light, roughly a 40W incandescent equivalent, so plan on it as supplemental to other fixtures rather than the sole source in a great room. The module is rated for 50,000 hours average life.
9) Is the Modern Forms Spinster fan ADA compliant for a healthcare or public facility spec?
No. The Spinster is not ADA compliant. If your spec sheet requires ADA compliance for the fixture, this one will not satisfy it and you will need a different model. It does, however, carry UL, cUL, CSA, ETL and cETL listings and a wet location rating at 120V.
10) What finish combinations does the Spinster 3-blade fan come in?
Three finish combinations are offered: all Matte Black, Matte Black with Matte White, and Soft Brass with Matte Black. The blades themselves are ABS with a Matte Black finish on the all-black version.
11) Does the Spinster fan run in reverse for winter heat circulation?
Yes, the DC motor is reversible, so you can run it in winter mode to push warm air back down off the ceiling. The DC motor is also the reason it is quiet and draws only a fraction of the power of an AC fan; the unit is Energy Star qualified.
