WAC Lighting 253703-CS-BZ – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can I run the WAC Playne 253703-CS-BZ deck light on my existing 12V landscape transformer?
Yes, if the transformer is a 9-12VAC magnetic type. The Playne 253703-CS-BZ is a 12V fixture and runs on a WAC Limited 12V magnetic power supply or most existing 12V landscape systems. WAC's own magnetic supplies for it are LC-2531100-SS and LC-2531200-SS, or a comparable unit. It is not an electronic-transformer or line-voltage fixture, so don't feed it from a 120V circuit directly.
2) Will this deck light hold up mounted on a fence post exposed to rain and sprinklers?
It's built for it. The housing is K-alloy aluminum with anti-scratch and anti-corrosion treatment, the fixture is IP64 rated and carries a Wet location rating, and it is ETL and cETL listed under UL 1298. Mounting bracket and hardware are included for wall, fence, or deck post installation.
3) Do I have to pick a color temperature when I order this Playne deck light?
No. It's a 5-CCT selectable fixture with a switch concealed behind the housing, so you set 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, 4000K or 5000K in the field. That means one part number covers warm patio work and cooler security or pathway lighting, and a property manager can stock a single SKU and match whatever is already on site.
4) What wiring comes attached, and do I need to buy connectors to tie it into my landscape run?
Each fixture ships with 6 ft of 14x2 direct burial landscape cable already connected, plus two gel-filled direct burial wire nuts. So the splice to your main run is covered out of the box. It is a hardwired fixture, not a plug-in, and the LED module is integral and included, so there is no lamp to buy.
5) Can the WAC Playne 253703-CS-BZ be dimmed?
Yes, with a magnetic low-voltage (MLV) dimmer wired on the low-voltage side of the power supply. It dims smoothly to 5%. WAC suggests their 9000-MLV-BK dimmer for best results. A TRIAC or ELV dimmer on the line side is the wrong control for this fixture.
6) How many of these 3W deck lights can I put on one transformer run?
Each Playne 253703-CS-BZ draws 3W at 12V, which is what makes it easy to load a lot of them on a single magnetic supply. Size the supply by total connected wattage against its rating (for example a 100VA or 200VA WAC magnetic unit, LC-2531100-SS or LC-2531200-SS), leaving headroom and accounting for cable run length and voltage drop.
7) Is this bright enough for a deck step or path, or should I look at a brighter fixture?
This is accent-level output, not area lighting. It's a 3W LED with a flood beam spread, 115 lumens delivered, at 90 CRI and a 50,000 hour rated life (LM-70). That suits grazing a deck board, a fence post, or a garden bed, and it's why they're normally installed in a series along a run rather than relying on one fixture to light a space.
8) Can I use this WAC deck light indoors, under a covered porch for example?
Yes. The fixture is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use and is rated for dry, damp, or wet locations, so a covered porch, a soffit, or an interior stair wall are all in scope. You still need a 12V magnetic supply feeding it wherever you put it.
9) What finish is the 253703-CS-BZ, and will it match other fixtures on the same deck?
The -BZ in the part number is the bronze finish, on a K-alloy aluminum body with anti-scratch treatment. It belongs to the WAC Limited Landscape collection, so spec'ing other fixtures from that same collection in bronze is how you keep a deck or courtyard consistent across path lights, deck lights, and accents.
