Metallics JFMP75 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the head sit flush in a countersunk hole?
Yes, that is what the flat head is for. The head measures 0.333 to 0.362 in. across and 0.098 to 0.116 in. high, so it seats fully into an 82 degree countersink of that diameter and finishes flush with the surface. If your plate or bracket has a plain drilled hole with no countersink, the head will stand proud by roughly the head height and you want a pan or round head instead.
2) Can I use these on a Buy American or ARRA funded job?
No. The JFMP75 is not Buy American compliant and is not ARRA compliant, with multiple countries of origin. On a federally funded project with domestic sourcing requirements you need a domestically produced fastener instead.
3) How many Metallics JFMP75 screws come in a jar?
They are packed 100 to a jar, and 100 is the order minimum. The jar weighs 0.48 lbs.
4) Is zinc plated steel okay for outdoor or damp locations?
Zinc plated steel is a dry, indoor-duty finish. The JFMP75 is steel with a zinc plating, which handles interior panel, box and fixture work well, but in wet, outdoor or washdown areas it will eventually rust. For those, use a stainless machine screw in the same 10-24 x 3/4 in. size.
5) What trades actually use these flat head Phillips machine screws?
They are stocked for electrical, plumbing, and heating and air conditioning work: mounting devices and plates in boxes, fastening covers and access panels, anchoring brackets and straps into tapped holes. Anywhere you need the head to finish flush in a countersunk hole and you are driving into a threaded hole or a nut rather than wood.
6) Do these machine screws meet a recognized dimensional spec for submittals?
They are made to ASME B18.6.3-1998 for head and body dimensions, with threads to ANSI/ASME B1.1. Gaging diameter is 0.313 with protrusion 0.025 to 0.042 above gage, which is the flat head seating check in that standard. That is enough to cite on an MRO or institutional submittal for a standard 10-24 flat head Phillips machine screw.
7) I need a different length or a bigger quantity of 10-24 flat head Phillips screws. Is that possible?
Yes. The JFMP75 is one size in the Metallics FM and FMP machine screw series, and other lengths and pack quantities in the line are available on request. Give the thread size, length, head style and the count you need and it can be matched within the series.
