American Standard 1660230.002 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will a standard showerhead thread onto the American Standard 1660230 slide bar?
Yes. The Square 30-inch shower slide bar uses standard 1/2-inch NPT thread, which is the common showerhead connection, so it takes virtually any showerhead or handshower fitting with that thread. No adapter needed for a standard 1/2-inch NPT head.
2) Is the American Standard Square 30-inch shower slide bar brass or plastic?
Brass. The bar is built in brass specifically for prolonged contact with water, which is what a property manager or MRO buyer wants in a high-traffic shower where plastic slide bars crack or chalk over time.
3) What finish and part number do I order for the American Standard square shower slide bar?
Chrome, ordered as American Standard part 1660230.002. The square profile is meant to be matched to other square-profile American Standard shower and lavatory fittings in the same room.
4) How does the water get from the wall supply to the head on this slide bar?
Through a right angle bend on the bar, with the standard 1/2-inch NPT thread at the connection. So it plumbs off the existing shower arm outlet rather than requiring a new rough-in, which makes it a straightforward swap in a remodel or a unit turn.
5) Is a 30-inch slide bar long enough to work for both adults and kids in one shower?
The 30-inch bar length gives a long vertical range of adjustment, so one shower can serve users of different heights and a seated user without re-plumbing. That range is the main reason spec writers pick a 30-inch bar over a shorter one in multi-family and hospitality baths.
