ACSI K-110 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the ACSI K-110 switch kit fit a Monarch 18 or 19 series exit device?
That's exactly what the K-110 is cut for. It's a field-installed request-to-exit switch kit built specifically for Monarch 18 and 19 Series exit devices. ACSI builds a separate kit per device family rather than one universal part, so if the door has a Von Duprin, Sargent, Falcon or Precision device on it instead, the K-110 is the wrong number and you want the matching kit for that brand.
2) What does an ACSI request-to-exit switch kit actually do once it's in the exit device?
It signals that someone pushed the bar. The K-110 puts an SPDT switch assembly inside the Monarch 18 or 19 device, and depressing the push bar throws that switch. Four common uses: instant release of a magnetic lock for free egress, triggering a door alarm, shunting a door alarm so egress doesn't cause a nuisance trip, and signalling a control console that the door was used. The kit ships with long wire leads and installation instructions.
3) Is the K-110 a single-pole or double-pole switch, and what if I need two separate circuits?
Single pole, double throw. One SPDT switch means one common with a normally open and a normally closed contact, which covers a single function: release the mag lock, or shunt the alarm, or report to the console. If the job needs two independent circuits switched off the same push bar, ACSI's DPDT kits exist in the Series K line for other device families, such as the K-200 for Von Duprin 33A, 35A, 98 and 99, the K-203 for Sargent 80, and the K-226 for Hager 4500 and 4600, PDQ 6200 and Stanley Commercial QED100, 200 and 300. The Monarch kit is the SPDT K-110.
4) Do I have to replace my exit devices to add request-to-exit, or can I retrofit the ones already on the doors?
Retrofit. Series K kits are field installed into the exit device you already have, so a building running Monarch 18 or 19 devices gets request-to-exit signalling without buying new hardware for every opening. That's usually the deciding difference between this and ordering electrified exit devices: the switch goes in the existing chassis and you run the leads out to the access control or alarm panel.
5) I'm standardizing request-to-exit across a building with mixed exit device brands. Can I use one ACSI kit everywhere?
No, and that's the thing to plan around. ACSI matches the kit to the device, so a mixed building takes a mixed order: K-110 for Monarch 18 and 19, K-100 for Von Duprin 33A, 35A, 98 and 99, K-101 for Von Duprin 55, K-102 for Von Duprin 88, K-103 for Sargent 80, K-104 for Sargent 9600, 9700, 9800 and 9900, K-105 for Sargent 9300, 9400 and 9500, K-106 for Adams Rite 8000 and 3000, K-107 for Corbin Russwin 8000 and Yale 2100, K-108 for Jackson 1085 and 1095, K-109 for Yale 7000 and Corbin Russwin ED4000 and ED5000, K-124 for Precision 2000, K-125 for Dorma 9000, K-129 for Falcon 24 and 25, and K-131 for Falcon 1690 and 1790. Walk the openings and count devices by series before you order.
6) Is the ACSI K-110 fire rated for use on a fire-rated exit device?
The K-110 switch kit itself carries no fire rating. It's a switch assembly component, not a labeled door assembly part, so any fire-door decision rests on the Monarch device and door assembly it goes into rather than on the kit.
7) What's the difference between an ACSI request-to-exit kit and a latch bolt monitor kit?
Different event. A request-to-exit kit like the K-110 switches when the push bar is depressed, so it tells the system somebody is leaving and releases a mag lock or shunts an alarm. A latch bolt monitor watches the latch itself to confirm the door actually secured. ACSI builds those separately: the K-123 latch bolt monitor kit for Von Duprin 33A, 35A, 98 and 99, and the K-127 latch bolt monitor for the ACSI 1500K-VD ELR kit on those same Von Duprin devices. If you need both signals on a Monarch opening, the K-110 covers the RX side only.
8) Do I need to order anything else with the K-110 to wire up a mag lock release?
The kit itself is complete for the device side: SPDT switch assembly, long wire leads, and installation instructions. What it does not include is anything downstream, so the mag lock, the power supply, the access control or alarm panel and the wire run between them are separate. The leads are long enough to get out of the device; you make up the connection to your panel.
9) Is the ACSI K-110 rated for commercial door traffic, or is it a light-duty part?
Commercial. The K-110 is a commercial-grade electronic access control component from ACSI's 1500 Series, sold for exit devices in the field, which is a hardware class you find on institutional and commercial egress doors rather than residential ones.
10) Only one version of the ACSI K-110 exists, or do I have to specify an option when ordering?
One part number, nothing to specify. The K-110 is ordered as a single model, with no finish, handing or voltage options to pick. Handing doesn't come into it either, since the switch mounts inside the exit device chassis.
