ACSI K-111 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Which exit devices does the ACSI K-111 request-to-exit switch kit fit?
The K-111 kit is built for Doromatic 990 and 1090 Series exit devices. It is device-specific, so if your push bar is a different family you need the matching kit instead: K-112 covers Doromatic 1490 and 1590, K-110 covers Monarch 18 and 19, and K-100 covers Von Duprin 33A, 35A, 98 and 99.
2) What type of switch comes in the ACSI K-111 kit and can I use it on a normally closed circuit?
Each Series K kit, K-111 included, uses a SPDT (single pole double throw) switch assembly, so you get both a normally open and a normally closed contact off one common and can wire whichever your panel needs. It ships with long wire leads and installation instructions. If your application needs two separate isolated circuits, a SPDT will not do it; ACSI builds DPDT versions in the same family, such as the K-200 for Von Duprin 33A, 35A, 98 and 99 and the K-203 for Sargent 80 Series.
3) Can the K-111 switch kit release a mag lock when someone pushes the exit device bar?
That is one of its main uses. Depressing the push bar throws the switch and gives instant release of magnetic locks for free egress. The same signal can be used to activate a door alarm, shunt a door alarm so egress does not trip it, or report the push bar action back to a control console.
4) Do I have to send my Doromatic exit device out to get a request-to-exit switch added?
No. ACSI Series K switch kits are field installed in the exit device, so a locksmith or integrator retrofits the K-111 into a Doromatic 990 or 1090 already hung on the door, using the instructions in the kit. No factory-electrified replacement device is needed.
5) Is the ACSI K-111 switch kit fire rated for use on a fire door?
The K-111 carries no fire rating. On a fire rated opening the exit device itself has to be a listed fire exit hardware assembly, and adding unlisted components can affect that listing, so confirm with the authority having jurisdiction before installing it on a labeled door.
6) I am standardizing request-to-exit switches across a building with mixed exit device brands. Does ACSI cover the other doors?
Yes, the Series K line spans most common devices, so you can keep one switch type across a facility and just order the right kit per door: K-101 for Von Duprin 55, K-102 for Von Duprin 88, K-103 for Sargent 80, K-104 for Sargent 9600/9700/9800/9900, K-105 for Sargent 9300/9400/9500, K-106 for Adams Rite 8000 and 3000, K-107 for Corbin Russwin 8000 and Yale 2100, K-109 for Yale 7000 and Corbin Russwin ED4000/ED5000, K-124 for Precision 2000, K-125 for Dorma 9000, K-129 for Falcon 24 and 25, and K-131 for Falcon 1690 and 1790.
7) What is the difference between the ACSI K-111 and a latch bolt monitor kit?
The K-111 is a request-to-exit switch: it signals when the push bar is depressed. A latch bolt monitor reports the position of the latch instead, telling you the door is actually secured. ACSI sells those separately, the K-123 for Von Duprin 33A, 35A, 98 and 99 and the K-127 for use with the ACSI 1500K-VD ELR kit on those same devices. If you need both push bar signal and latch status, they are two different kits.
8) Is this ACSI switch kit meant for commercial openings or will it work in an apartment?
It is a commercial-duty access control component, intended for exit devices on commercial and institutional openings. Multi-family buildings that use commercial exit devices on stair and corridor doors are exactly where it gets used; it is not a residential lockset accessory.
