The IX-DV (surface mount) and IX-DVF (flush mount) are weather resistant, IP video door stations. They connect to a network using Cat-5e/6 cable and are both SIP compliant. Each station is equipped with a 1.23 megapixel fixed color camera. The camera angle can be vertically adjusted using a lever on the back of the station. The video can be streamed to 3rd party devices using ONVIF Profile S or RTSP. Audio and video can be captured on a microSD™ card. The IX-DV and IX-DVF can be programmed to call up to 20 different stations. There are three different call level selections. The stations have a 600Ω output that can be used for paging or communication.

Aiphone IX-DV – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Aiphone IX-DV work over PoE, or do I need to run separate power to the door?
No separate power run needed. The IX-DV pulls power over the same Cat-5e/6 network cable using IEEE 802.3af class 0 PoE, drawing 5.28 watts. It also supports PoE pass through when fed from an 802.3at Type 2 PoE+ source, so a second device downstream can be powered off the same run. One low voltage cable to the door does power, audio, video, and network.
2) Should I order the IX-DV or the IX-DVF door station?
The difference is how it goes on the wall. IX-DV is the surface mount version, mounted with an included bracket, so it goes straight onto a finished wall or column with no cutting. IX-DVF is the flush mount version, which sets into the wall. Feature set is the same across both: same 1.23 megapixel camera, same SIP compliance, same weather and vandal resistance. Pick on whether you have a wall cavity to recess into.
3) Can the IX-DV release the door lock, or do I need a separate controller?
The door station handles it. The IX-DV has 2 contact outputs, one for door release and one for external signaling, plus 6 trigger inputs for things like a request-to-exit device, a door position switch, or a call button. The strike or maglock itself and its power supply are separate items, but you do not need an additional access control panel just to unlock the door from the station.
4) Will an Aiphone IX-DV hold up mounted outside in a northern climate?
Rated for -40 to 140 degrees F (-40 to 60 degrees C), so it will run through a Midwest or Canadian winter and a desert summer. Protection is IP54 against dust and splashing water, and IK08 for impact, with a stainless steel faceplate and die cast aluminum cover. That covers an exposed entry, a gate post, or a parking structure. IP54 is not a submersion rating, so do not put it somewhere it will sit under standing water or take a direct pressure wash.
5) Can tenants or staff answer the door station on their phones instead of a master station?
Yes, through SIP. The IX-DV is SIP compliant and integrates with Cisco Unified Call Manager, so calls from the door can be routed to phones on the VoIP system and answered off-site. Without SIP, it can be programmed to call up to 20 different stations on the IX system, with three call level selections. That combination is what a property manager uses when a leasing office is not staffed after hours.
6) Does the Aiphone IX-DV record video and audio, and does anything else need to be bought for that?
It records to a microSD card, capturing audio and video of active conversations. Aiphone does not supply the card, so budget one with the order. If the recordings need to land on a server rather than in the station, use the ONVIF Profile S or RTSP stream into a VMS instead.
7) Can I aim the door station camera at the right height after it is installed?
There's a manual vertical adjustment, set by a lever on the back of the station, with positions at +15, 0, and -8 degrees. It is a fixed camera otherwise, no pan or zoom. Because the lever is on the back, set the angle while the station is off the bracket rather than after it is buttoned up. That range is what you use to compensate for mounting high on a column or low next to a gate.
8) Will an Aiphone IX-DV pass on a network that requires port authentication?
The station supports IEEE 802.1X port security, so it can authenticate onto a managed network that requires it, which is the usual sticking point on school, hospital, and government networks. It runs IPv4 and IPv6, and speaks HTTPS, SIP, RTSP, RTP, DHCP, NTP, DNS, SMTP, and FTP among others. Hand that list to the IT group before the rough-in and the switch port will be ready when you get there.
9) Is the IX-DV rated for commercial use or is it a residential doorbell camera?
This is commercial-grade equipment, not a consumer doorbell. The IX-DV is a vandal resistant IP door station in the Aiphone IX Series, built for multi-tenant entries, tenant improvement work, and institutional openings, with an IK08 impact rating and a stainless steel faceplate. It also has a 600 ohm output that can feed a paging amplifier or other communication gear, which is a facility feature no residential unit carries.
10) What audio and video quality should I expect from an IX-DV over the network?
Audio runs G.711 (mu-law and A-law) or G.722, so it will negotiate with standard SIP endpoints, and G.722 gives wideband speech at the door where ambient noise is a problem. Video is H.264/AVC or motion JPEG off a 1.23 megapixel sensor. Those are the codecs to confirm against your phone system or VMS before you commit to the station.
