The IX-SS-2G is a 2-gang, flush mount IP addressable door station. It is weather resistant (IP65) and connects to a network using Cat-5e/6 cable. It is SIP compliant and can be used with or without other IX Series stations. The station can be programmed to call up to 20 different stations and there are 3 different call levels to choose from. Sound files can be uploaded allowing for custom messages to be played during certain functions (door release, call placed, communication start, error message). The station has audible and visual indications for calling, communication, and door release.

1) Can the IX-SS-2G be mounted outdoors at an exterior entrance?
Yes. It's IP65 rated against water and dust and operates from -40 to 140 degrees F (-40 to 60 C), so an unprotected exterior door or gate callbox location is within spec. The stainless cover carries an IK08 impact rating, which is the reason it gets specified at high-traffic and public-facing entries rather than a plastic-front station.
2) Does the Aiphone IX-SS-2G work with a third-party SIP phone system, or do I need other Aiphone IX stations?
It's SIP 2.0 compliant and can be used with or without other IX Series stations, so it will register to a third-party SIP server and call SIP endpoints directly. Audio codecs are G.711 (mu-law and A-law) and G.722. It also runs as a straight IX system station if you're building out an all-Aiphone intercom.
3) What wiring and power does this IP door station need at the door?
One Cat-5e or Cat-6 run back to the network is all it takes. Power comes over that same cable via PoE, IEEE 802.3af class 0, drawing 3.36 watts, so no separate power supply or transformer at the door. Confirm the switch port or midspan injector is 802.3af.
4) Can the IX-SS-2G release an electric strike or maglock directly?
It has one contact output that can drive a door release, plus one trigger input you can use for a door position switch, request-to-exit, or an external button. The station gives audible and visual indication on door release. The strike or maglock still needs its own power supply sized to the lock; the contact output is a dry switching point, not a power source.
5) How many places can a call from this door station ring?
The station can be programmed to call up to 20 different stations, with 3 call levels to choose from (normal, priority, urgent handling). That covers a lobby desk plus after-hours rollover to a maintenance office or a management phone without adding hardware at the door.
6) Will the IX-SS-2G pass our network security requirements?
Port security is IEEE 802.1X, so it authenticates onto a controlled switch port rather than needing an open VLAN exception. It supports IPv4 and IPv6 and runs HTTPS alongside HTTP, plus RTSP/RTP/RTCP for streaming, SIP, DHCP, NTP, DNS, SMTP, FTP, IGMP and MLD. That combination is what most IT departments in healthcare, education and government ask for before they'll let a door device onto the production network.
7) Is the IX-SS-2G an audio-only station or does it have a camera?
It's an audio door station. The face carries an illuminated call button indicator and gives audible and visual feedback for calling, communication and door release, but video is not part of this model. If the opening needs the visitor on camera, specify a video door station from the IX Series instead.
8) Can I play a custom message at the door, like a recorded greeting or an ADA-style confirmation?
Sound files can be uploaded to the station and assigned to specific events: door release, call placed, communication start, and error message. Property managers use this for building-specific greetings; institutions use it to confirm door release audibly for visitors who can't see the indicator.
9) Is this door station suitable for residential use or is it a commercial product?
