The IX-SSA is a flush mount IP addressable door station. It is weather resistant (IP65) and connects to the network using Cat-5e/6 cable. It is SIP compliant and can be used with or without other IX Series stations. Audio can be captured on a micro SD card. The station can be programmed to call up to 20 different stations with 3 different call levels to choose from. The station has a 600? output that can be used for paging or communication. There are 2 contact outputs that can be programmed to trigger during door release, when the 600? output is used, or based on the status of the station. There are 6 inputs that can be used to trigger an outgoing call or answer a call/page. Sound files can be uploaded for custom messages to be played during certain functions (door release, call placed, communication start, error message). The stations have audible and visual indications for calling, communication, and door release.

Aiphone IX-SSA – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Aiphone IX-SSA door station need its own power supply, or will PoE run it?
PoE runs it. The IX-SSA draws power over the network cable using IEEE 802.3af class 0, with a power draw of 3.36 watts, so a single Cat-5e or Cat-6 run handles both data and power. It also supports PoE pass through when fed from an 802.3at Type 2 PoE+ source, which lets you power a downstream device from the same run. No separate transformer or local outlet at the door is required.
2) Can the IX-SSA be surface mounted, or is it flush mount only?
Flush mounting is the default, and a back box is included in the box for that. For a surface installation, where you cannot cut into the wall or the substrate is solid masonry, the SBX-IDVF stainless steel surface mount box is the accessory to add. That box is a separate order item, so budget for it if the wall cannot be recessed.
3) Will the Aiphone IX-SSA hold up outdoors in cold or wet weather?
It is built for exterior use. The IX-SSA is IP65 rated against dust and water jets, carries an IK08 impact rating behind its stainless steel cover, and is specified for operation from -40 to 140 degrees F (-40 to 60 degrees C). That temperature band covers northern winters and unshaded southern entries alike, which is why it suits parking structures, loading docks, and gate entries as well as lobby doors.
4) Will the IX-SSA work with our existing SIP phone system, or do we have to buy Aiphone master stations too?
Either way works. The IX-SSA is SIP 2.0 compliant, so it can register to a third-party SIP server and ring desk phones or softphones directly, and it can also run peer-to-peer with other IX Series stations. Audio codecs are G.711 (mu-law and A-law) and G.722; video is H.264/AVC and motion JPEG. It speaks IPv4 and IPv6 and supports HTTPS, RTSP, DHCP, NTP and DNS, with IEEE 802.1X for port security on a managed network.
5) Can the IX-SSA trigger a door strike and talk to other building systems?
Yes. There are 2 contact outputs that can be programmed to fire on door release, when the 600 ohm audio output is in use, or based on station status, so one can drive a strike or maglock relay and the other can signal a recorder or annunciator. There are also 6 trigger inputs that can start an outgoing call or answer an incoming call or page, which is how you tie in a request-to-exit, a call button, or an alarm contact.
6) How many places can one IX-SSA entry station ring?
Up to 20 stations from a single call button press, with 3 call priority levels to choose from. That covers a leasing office plus an after-hours guard post plus a mobile answering point without adding hardware at the door. Escalation behavior is set in programming, not by wiring.
7) Is the Aiphone IX-SSA suitable for a commercial building entrance or is it a residential intercom?
It is a commercial-rated IP door station. The vandal resistant stainless steel face, IK08 impact rating and IP65 weather rating are there for public-facing entries such as multi-family lobbies, schools, healthcare entrances and industrial gates. For anyone standardizing a campus, it is part of the Aiphone IX Series, so additional entries and interior answering points can be added on the same network platform.
8) Does the IX-SSA record calls, and is a memory card included?
Audio can be captured to a micro SD card through the card slot on the station, but Aiphone does not supply the card. Buy one separately and size it to how much audio you intend to retain. Note that this is audio capture, not video recording.
9) Can we play a custom message to visitors when the door unlocks?
Sound files can be uploaded to the IX-SSA and played on door release, when a call is placed, at the start of communication, and on an error. That is how sites add a name, a language other than English, or an instruction like "pull the door." The station also gives audible and visual indication for calling, communication and door release, and the call button itself is illuminated, so a visitor at a dark entry can find it.
