1) Does the Alarm Controls MCK-1 key station come with a mortise cylinder?
No cylinder is included. The MCK-1 is the stainless steel wall plate and switch assembly only, drilled to accept a standard 1-1/8 inch mortise cylinder, which you buy separately. Alarm Controls lists the CY-1 and CY-1A cylinders for it. Tamper-proof and slotted-head mounting screws are in the box.
2) Momentary or maintained key switch, which do I need for a door release?
Momentary action is the one for releasing a door or triggering an exit device, the contacts transfer only while the key is turned and reset when you let go. Alternate action latches, so the state holds after the key returns, which is what you want for arming a system, holding a mag lock unlocked, or putting an opening into a day mode. Both actions are ordered options on the MCK-1.
3) Can the MCK-1 switch a 24VDC maglock circuit directly?
The contacts are rated 4A at 28 VDC, so a common 12 or 24VDC magnetic lock or strike drawing under 4 amps can be broken directly by the switch, no interposing relay needed. Anything AC line voltage or above that current draw goes through a relay instead.
4) Can I key the MCK-1 station to my building master key system?
Yes, because the cylinder is not supplied with it. The plate takes any standard 1-1/8 inch mortise cylinder, so your locksmith can fit a cylinder in your existing keyway and key it into the same system as the rest of the doors. That is the practical reason the station ships cylinder-less.
5) SPDT or DPDT on the MCK-1, what is the difference in practice?
SPDT gives you one set of transfer contacts, enough to break a mag lock circuit or fire a single input on a panel. DPDT gives you two isolated sets that switch together, so one key turn can drop a lock and separately shunt an alarm zone or signal an access panel without tying the two circuits together. All four MCK-1 build combinations are SPDT or DPDT, in momentary or alternate action.
6) Can an Alarm Controls MCK-1 key station be mounted outdoors?
Only with the WP option, which adds a weather resistant cover and a surface mount box, and that option is available on single gang models only. The switch itself is rated for +15 to 120F, so cold below 15F is outside its operating range regardless of the cover.
7) Does the MCK-1 key station have a status LED, and what voltage does it run on?
LEDs are an ordering option, not standard. You can specify no LED, a single green, or green and red together. The LEDs run on 12 or 24 VDC or VAC, so they can be fed from the same supply as most access control locks.
8) Can I get a timed output from an MCK-1 key switch instead of adding a timer relay?
A pneumatic time delay is available as a factory option, adjustable from 2 to 45 seconds, which covers a normal door release dwell without a separate timer module in the can. If your release needs to hold longer than 45 seconds, you are back to an external timer.
9) Will the MCK-1 station match the other stainless plates on my doors?
The wall plate is satin stainless steel, the standard finish for switch and pull plates on commercial openings, so it reads the same as satin stainless push plates, mortise cylinder rings, and adjacent single gang device plates. It is a commercial grade device, not a residential trim item.
10) How do I wire an Alarm Controls MCK-1 key switch?
The switch terminates in colored leads rather than screw terminals, so you splice to your run in the box or gang behind the plate. Allow 1-1/4 inches of depth behind the plate for the switch body plus your splices.
