1) Does the Alarm Controls MCK-5 key switch station come with a mortise cylinder?
No. The MCK-5 station ships as the stainless steel wall plate and switch only. The plate accepts a standard 1-1/8 inch mortise cylinder, which you order separately. Alarm Controls lists the CY-1 and CY-1A cylinders for it. If you are keying it into an existing master system, supply your own 1-1/8 inch mortise cylinder in the building keyway and cam it for the switch.
2) How deep does the back box need to be for an MCK-5 key switch?
Allow 1-1/4 inches of clearance behind the plate for the switch body, plus room for the mortise cylinder and the lead wires. A standard single gang box in a stud wall handles it. In solid masonry or a narrow mullion, verify the depth before you cut, since the cylinder tailpiece sits behind the plate as well.
3) Momentary or alternate action on a key switch station, which one do I need?
Momentary action makes contact only while the key is turned and springs back, so it is what you use to pulse a door release, a mag lock bypass, or an automatic operator. Alternate action latches in position, holding the circuit made until the key is turned back, which is how you hold a maglock unlocked or put a door on free access during business hours. The MCK-5 is built either way, in both SPDT and DPDT.
4) Can the MCK-5 hold a door unlocked for a set time by itself?
Yes, if you order the pneumatic timer version. That build gives an on-board time delay adjustable from 2 to 45 seconds, so a key turn releases the door and the contact resets itself without any external timer module. If you need longer than 45 seconds, use an alternate action model and turn the key back, or feed a separate timer relay.
5) Is the Alarm Controls MCK-5 rated for outdoor mounting?
Only with the WP option. Ordering the weather resistant version adds a weatherproof cover and a surface mount box, and it is offered on single gang models like the MCK-5. Operating range is +15 to 120F either way, so in climates that drop below 15F the station is not the right choice for an exposed exterior wall.
6) Can I switch a 12 VDC maglock directly through this key station?
Only if the lock draws 4A or less at 28 VDC or under, which is the contact rating on the MCK-5. Most single maglocks sit well inside that. If you are cutting power to a bank of locks, a door operator motor, or anything on line voltage, wire the station to a control relay and let the relay carry the load.
7) When would I order the DPDT version of the MCK-5 instead of SPDT?
Take DPDT when the key turn has to switch two independent circuits at once, for example dropping a maglock while simultaneously signaling an alarm panel or shunting a door contact. SPDT gives you one set of transfer contacts, which covers a straight door release. Either way the contacts are rated 4A at 28 VDC, so anything heavier than that runs through a relay.
8) What voltage does the green LED on the MCK-5 run on?
The LED works on 12 or 24 VDC or VAC, so it drops onto whatever the access control power supply is already putting out at the door. On the MCK-5 the LED is green only, typically wired to show door status or that the release is active. Alarm Controls also builds the same plate with no LED and with green plus red, if you need a two-state indication.

It is a single gang stainless steel wall plate that covers a standard single gang opening, and both tamper-proof and slotted-head screws are in the box. Use the tamper-proof set on anything public facing. The switch terminates in colored leads behind the plate, so you are splicing to your field wiring in the box rather than landing on screw terminals.
