1) Does the Alarm Controls MCK-6 station come with the mortise cylinder?
No. The MCK-6 mortise cylinder station ships as the stainless steel wall plate and switch only. The cylinder is ordered separately, and Alarm Controls lists the CY-1 and CY-1A as the matching cylinders. The plate is cut for a standard 1-1/8 inch mortise cylinder, so if you already keep a keyway standard in the building you can supply your own cylinder in that size and key it into the existing system. Tamper-proof and slotted-head screws are in the box.
2) How deep does the MCK-6 key switch need behind the wall plate?
Switch depth behind the plate is 1-1/4 inches on the MCK-6. That is the clearance you need inside a single gang box or in the wall cavity behind it. Anything shallower than a standard single gang box depth and the switch body will not seat.
3) Momentary or alternate action on a key switch for a door release, which do I want?
Momentary is the one for a door release. On the MCK-6, momentary action transfers the contacts only while the key is turned and drops back the instant you let go, which is what an electric strike or mag lock release wants. Alternate action latches, so the contacts stay transferred until the key is turned again. Use alternate for something you want to hold in a state: shunting an alarm zone, disabling a device, putting a mag lock into free access for a delivery window. If neither fits, the MCK-6 also comes with a pneumatic time delay switch that holds the release from 2 to 45 seconds after the key is turned, adjustable, which is how you get an unlock long enough to walk through without a separate timer module.
4) Can the MCK-6 key switch handle the current of my electric strike?
Contacts on the MCK-6 are rated 4 amps at 28 VDC. That covers most 12 or 24 VDC electric strikes and mag locks switched directly. If your lock draws more than that, or you are switching AC line voltage, run the station into a relay or the access control panel and let that carry the load instead of the switch contacts.
5) Can I mount an MCK-6 key station outside on an exterior wall?
Only with the WP option. Ordered that way the MCK-6 comes with a weather resistant cover and a surface mount box, which is what makes it suitable outside or in a wash-down or parking area. Without WP it is an interior flush device in a single gang box.
