1) Does the Alarm Controls MCK-2 key station come with the mortise cylinder?
No cylinder ships with it. The MCK-2 stainless steel wall plate is drilled to accept a standard 1-1/8 inch mortise cylinder, and you buy that cylinder separately. Alarm Controls lists the CY-1 and CY-1A as the matching cylinders. If you key your building to a house keyway, you can also supply your own 1-1/8 inch mortise cylinder and key it into your existing system. Tamper-proof and slotted-head screws are included with the plate.
2) Momentary or alternate action on a key switch, which one do I need for my door?
Momentary and alternate action are both offered on the MCK-2, and they do different jobs. Momentary makes the contact only while the key is turned and springs back, which is what you want to release a maglock or fire a door operator for a single entry. Alternate action latches in position, so a turn of the key holds the circuit made until someone keys it back, which is how you unlock a door for business hours or shunt an alarm for a delivery window. Pick momentary for a release, alternate for an on and off.
3) Can the Alarm Controls MCK-2 switch a maglock directly, or do I need a relay?
The contacts are rated 4 amps at 28 VDC, which covers a typical 12 or 24 VDC maglock or electric strike drawing well under that, so the station can break the lock power line directly with no interposing relay. Anything above 28 VDC or over 4 amps, run the station into a relay instead. The switch legs come terminated in colored leads for identification at the box.
4) SPDT or DPDT on the MCK-2 key station, when do I need the double pole?
Single pole double throw handles one circuit: it will drop a maglock or trigger one input. Go DPDT when the same key turn has to do two independent things at once, for example releasing the lock on one set of contacts while the second set shunts the door contact at the alarm panel or signals the access control head end. Both pole configurations are available on the MCK-2 in momentary and alternate action.
5) What voltage does the green LED on the MCK-2 station run on?
The LED works on 12 or 24 VDC or VAC, so it drops onto whatever low voltage supply is already feeding the lock hardware without a separate power source. On the MCK-2 the LED is green only, typically wired as a status or unlocked indication. Alarm Controls also builds MCK stations with no LED and with green plus red LEDs if you need a two state indication at the door.
6) Can an Alarm Controls MCK key station be mounted outside on an exterior door?
The switch itself is rated from +15 to 120 F, so the temperature range covers most exterior work. For actual weather exposure, order the WP option, which adds a weather resistant cover and a surface mount box. WP is only built for single gang models, which the MCK-2 is. Below +15 F, put it inside a vestibule instead.
7) I need the door to stay unlocked for a set number of seconds after the key turn. Does the MCK-2 do that?
Not the MCK-2 itself. Timing is a separate build option in the MCK family: Alarm Controls offers a pneumatic time delay adjustable from 2 to 45 seconds on the timed models in the series. The MCK-2 as configured is a plain green LED keyswitch with momentary or alternate action and no delay, so if you need a held unlock you either specify the timed MCK model or feed the MCK-2 momentary contact into a timer relay.
8) What finish is the MCK-2 key switch plate, and will it match the other plates in my building?
Satin stainless steel, which is the standard commercial plate finish and reads the same as the 630 satin stainless trim on most exit devices, push plates and other key stations, so it lines up with typical building standard hardware. The plate is stainless steel throughout, not painted or plated, so scratches at a high traffic opening do not expose a different colour underneath.
9) Is a mortise cylinder key station a better choice than a keypad or card reader for a maintenance override?
For an override or a request to exit that only staff should reach, a mortise cylinder station like the MCK-2 is the simpler answer: it has no credentials to manage, no power needed for the switch itself, and it keys into the same system the rest of the building already uses, so a master key works it. A keypad or reader makes sense when you need per user audit or codes you can change. Where the station falls short is scheduling and logging, which it does not do at all, so those stay with the access control panel.
10) Are the mounting screws on the MCK-2 station tamper resistant?
Both sets ship in the box. Alarm Controls includes tamper-proof screws and standard slotted-head screws with the MCK-2 plate, so you can put the tamper-proof ones on a public side opening and keep the slotted heads for a back of house door where service access matters more than defeat resistance.
