Appleton EFD/EFDB and EDS Series Explosionproof Control Station, Malleable Iron
Appleton EFD/EFDB and EDS Series factory sealed control stations are explosionproof, dust-ignitionproof enclosures that confine device arcing within the housing, preventing ignition of surrounding atmospheres during control operation. Built with malleable iron bodies and covers, this family offers push buttons, selector switches, and pilot lights for remote or local control and status indication of motors and other equipment used with contactors or magnetic starters. Rated Class I, Division 1 and 2, Groups B, C, D; Class II, Division 1 and 2, Groups E, F, G; Class III; and NEMA 3, 7CD, 9EFG, these stations are designed for classified areas where flammable vapors, gases, or combustible dusts are present.
Key Features
- Explosionproof, Dust-Ignitionproof Construction: Confines arcing within the enclosure, ideal for chemical and petrochemical plants, refineries, and other process industries.
- Durable Construction: EFDB control stations use a malleable iron body with copperfree (4/10 of 1% max.) aluminum cover; EDS units use a malleable iron body and cover, each with a triple-coat finish of zinc electroplate, chromate, and epoxy powder coat.
- Factory Sealed: Pigtail leads from push buttons are factory sealed in a sealing well, eliminating the need to add sealing fittings and compound at each conduit entrance.
- Heavy-Duty Push Buttons: Rated 10 Amp, 600 Vac, with silver cadmium oxide contacts sealed in a corrosion-isolated lower phenolic chamber for positive, long-term contact.
- Pilot Lights: EFD/EFDB factory sealed pilot lights include a red jewel/guard assembly and 120 Vac/Vdc, 50/60 Hz, 6 Watt, Type 6S6 lamp for visual confirmation of remote or local electrical function.
- Stainless Steel Hardware: Stainless steel push button shaft operates within a stainless steel bushing, and corrosion resistant captive stainless steel hex head cap screws secure covers to the body.
- Lockout Capable: EFD/EFDB momentary push buttons include lockout type guards as standard, with a hole accepting locks up to 1/4" hasp to prevent unauthorized operation.
- Selector Switches: EFD/EFDB factory sealed selector switches use nylon cam-operated construction for 2-position or 3-position maintained contact operation with high thermal and arc resistance.

What this is: EDS175-RU1 is a complete, factory-sealed, dead-end 1-gang control station built with a malleable iron body and a 3/4" hub, furnished with a rocker-arm handle rated 10A at up to 600 VAC. The rocker arm can be padlocked in either the ON or OFF position. This is a working device (not a blank cover or an empty body) — ready to wire and install. It differs from the EFD275-NL-Q listing (a 2-gang body without the switch installed) and from ESKBBQ (a blank cover with no device at all).
