Arrow E64 26D – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is the Arrow E64 deadbolt a classroom function lock, and what does that actually do on the door?
Classroom function, keyed one side with a thumbturn on the other. On the E64 the key operates the deadbolt from the outside and the inside turn retracts it, so a teacher can lock the corridor side and the room side is never keyed shut. It's a Grade 2 commercial deadlock, not a residential bolt.
2) Will an Arrow E64 deadbolt fit a 1-3/8 inch door, or does it need a 1-3/4?
Both work. The E64 covers 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch doors as standard, which is the old interior thickness and the standard commercial thickness. The backset is adjustable between 2-3/8 and 2-3/4 inches, so it drops onto either of the two cross-bore positions you'll find in an existing door.
3) How far does the Arrow E Series deadbolt throw, and will it reach my existing strike?
One inch of throw on a solid steel bolt with a hardened, free-spinning steel pin insert to resist sawing. A full 1 inch bolt needs a strike box deep enough to take it, so if you're replacing a shorter residential bolt, plan on the strike and frame prep being the part that needs attention, not the lock.
4) What strike and faceplate come with the Arrow E64 deadlock, and what do I order for a hollow metal frame?
It ships with the #346 wood frame strike. For a hollow metal frame, the #345 metal frame strike is the option to specify. Deadbolt fronts are 2-1/4 x 1 inch for the 2-3/8 backset and 2-1/4 x 1-1/8 inch for the 2-3/4 backset, and drive-in bolts are available if you'd rather not mortise a face.
5) Can I get the Arrow E64 to work on my existing Schlage keys or my Best interchangeable core system?
Both routes are covered. Order the CS cylinder version for a 6-pin Schlage CS keyway, or the standard cylinder in Arrow's own A keyway (drilled for 6 pins, pinned to 5, two brass keys). If you run small format interchangeable cores, the IC version takes 6 or 7 pin SFIC and ships less core; it accepts Best or Falcon type cores. There's also an LC less-cylinder option if you're supplying your own.
6) I need a Grade 1 classroom deadbolt instead of Grade 2, what else is there?
The E64 is Grade 2. If the spec calls for Grade 1 in the same classroom arrangement, the Falcon D111 is a Grade 1 heavy duty classroom deadbolt with adjustable backset, and the Accentra D111 is a Grade 1 cylinder x thumbturn deadbolt with a 2-3/8 inch backset covering 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch doors. Corbin Russwin's DL2211 is a Grade 1 classroom cylindrical deadlock, but it's a 1-3/4 inch door only.
7) Will an Arrow E64 work on a 2 inch thick door?
No. The E64's standard range stops at 1-3/4 inches. For a thicker door, the Corbin Russwin DL3011 covers 1-3/4 to 2-1/4 inches, and the Deltana 7312KA2 double cylinder handles 1-3/8 to 2 inches. Note that the E Series SFIC unit is quoted at 1-3/8 to 2 inches, so confirm which build you are ordering before assuming the extra thickness.
8) I need a deadbolt keyed on both sides instead of a thumbturn. What replaces the Arrow E64?
Move to a double cylinder deadbolt. The Dexter DB2000 double cylinder is Grade 2 and fits doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch, the same range as the Arrow E64. The Hager 3214 is a Grade 2 double cylinder deadbolt with a Schlage C keyway, fire rated, also 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch. The Delaney LU Series 320601 is a Grade 2 double cylinder deadbolt in a stainless steel US32D finish. The E64 is cylinder x thumbturn, so the inside is always a turn, not a key. Note that double cylinder deadbolts are restricted on egress doors in many jurisdictions.
9) What is the closest Grade 2 classroom-function deadbolt to the Arrow E64 from another manufacturer?
The Falcon D211 is the nearest peer. It is a Grade 2 classroom-function deadbolt with single cylinder operation, medium duty, in the D200 Series, and like the Arrow E64 it operates cylinder outside by thumbturn inside. The E64 is a Grade 2 classroom function deadlock with the same cylinder x thumbturn arrangement, so the two land on the same door and the same ANSI grade.
10) What should I use instead of the Arrow E64 when the specification calls for a Grade 1 classroom deadbolt?
Step up to the Falcon D111 or the Hager 3118. The Falcon D111 is a Grade 1 classroom deadbolt lock with adjustable backset, heavy duty, in the D100 Series. The Hager 3118 is a Grade 1 classroom deadbolt with a Schlage C keyway and a 6-pin cylinder, fire rated, and fits doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch, the same door thickness range the Arrow E64 covers. The Arrow E64 is Grade 2, so it will not satisfy a Grade 1 line item.
11) Which deadbolt takes a small format interchangeable core like the Arrow E64 IC version?
The Deltana CL200LAIC is a Grade 2 single cylinder interchangeable core deadbolt with a 2-3/4 inch backset, cylinder x thumbturn, supplied non-cylinder. The Delaney LM Series 301702 is a Grade 1 single cylinder less core deadbolt in dull chrome US26D, cylinder x thumbturn. The Arrow E64 accepts 6 or 7 pin small format interchangeable cores, supplied less cores, and will accept Best or Falcon type cores, on an adjustable 2-3/8 inch or 2-3/4 inch backset.
12) Can I key an Arrow E64 into an existing Schlage system, or do I need a different brand?
You do not need to switch brands. The Arrow E64 is offered with a CS conventional cylinder, 6 pins, in the Schlage CS keyway alongside the standard Arrow A keyway. Among peers, the Hager 3115 is a Grade 2 cylinder x thumbturn deadbolt with a Schlage C keyway for doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch, and the Dormakaba D900 small case mortise deadbolt is furnished keyed different with SC keyways.
13) Is the Corbin Russwin DL2211 the same thing as the Arrow E64?
They are both classroom-function cylindrical deadlocks, but they are not interchangeable. The Corbin Russwin DL2211 is a Grade 1 cylindrical deadlock in the DL2200 Series with a cylinder x blank arrangement, meaning the inside face is blank rather than a turn, and it is built for 1-3/4 inch doors only. The Arrow E64 is Grade 2, cylinder x thumbturn, and fits 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors. If you need a turn on the inside, the DL2211 will not give you one.
14) What deadbolt do I use if the door is thicker than 1-3/4 inches?
The Arrow E64 covers 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors. For a thicker leaf, the Corbin Russwin DL3011 is a Grade 1 cylindrical deadlock in the DL3000 Series rated for 1-3/4 inch to 2-1/4 inch doors. The Deltana 7312KA2 is a Grade 3 double cylinder deadbolt covering 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch. Note the DL3011 is a cylinder x blank deadlock and the 7312KA2 is keyed both sides, so neither gives you the inside thumbturn the E64 has.
15) I need a fire rated deadbolt for a labeled opening. What are my options next to the Arrow E64?
The Hager 3215 is a single cylinder Grade 2 commercial deadbolt with a 1 inch throw, fire rated, for doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch. The Cal-Royal CRB800 is a Grade 1 heavy duty single cylinder deadbolt with a UL 3-hour fire rated latch, cylinder x thumbturn, in the CRB800 Series. The Arrow E64 also throws a 1 inch solid steel bolt and covers the same 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch door range.
16) Can I order a batch of Arrow E64 deadbolts keyed alike for one building?
Yes. Keying is a required selection: keyed different is the standard, keyed alike is there for running multiple locks on one key, and there's a key code field if you're matching an existing system. Choose the None keying option when you're ordering the less-cylinder or SFIC less-core versions, since there's no cylinder to key.
17) Do I have to specify handing for the Arrow E64 deadlock?
No handing to specify. All E Series functions are reversible, so one part number covers left and right hand openings. Two 1/4 inch steel thru-bolts come in the box, and the two-piece housing has a free spinning outer ring so the outside cannot be wrenched off.
18) What's the closest Grade 2 alternative to the Arrow E64 if I can't use Arrow keyways?
The Falcon D211 is the nearest match: Grade 2, medium duty, classroom function, single cylinder operation. On the Schlage keyway side, Hager's 3115 is a Grade 2 cylinder x thumbturn deadbolt with a Schlage C keyway over the same 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch door range, and the Hager 3215 is a Grade 2 single cylinder with a 1 inch throw. Cal-Royal's CB160 is another Grade 2 cylinder x thumbturn with a tamper-resistant cylinder guard, similar in intent to the E Series wrench-proof collar.
19) Is the Accentra D111 a substitute for the Arrow E64?
They overlap on the opening but not on the grade. The Accentra D111 is a Grade 1 single cylinder deadbolt with a 2-3/8 inch backset in the D Series, cylinder x thumbturn, covering doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch. The Arrow E64 is Grade 2, also cylinder x thumbturn, with the same 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch door thickness range and a standard 141 latch at 2-3/8 inch backset. If your prep is 2-3/8 inch backset and cylinder outside, thumbturn inside, either mounts; the D111 answers a Grade 1 spec that the E64 does not.
20) Which deadbolt has a tamper-resistant cylinder guard like the Arrow E64 collar?
The Cal-Royal CB160 is a Grade 2 single cylinder deadbolt with a tamper-resistant cylinder guard, cylinder x thumbturn, in the CB160 Series. The Arrow E64 uses a two-piece housing with a free spinning outer ring to resist wrenching, a 1 inch throw solid steel deadbolt with a hardened free spinning steel pin insert, and concealed mounting screws standard on double cylinder functions.
21) Are the Bravura 310B Elite and Callan 200S-G2 equivalents to the Arrow E64?
They share the grade and the operation but not the trim style or the classroom function. The Bravura 310B Elite is a Grade 2 traditional round deadbolt, cylinder x thumbturn; the Bravura 310SC Elite is the Grade 2 contemporary square version; and the Callan 200S-G2 is a Grade 2 single cylinder round trim deadbolt, cylinder x thumbturn. The Arrow E64 is a Grade 2 classroom function keyed deadlock with an adjustable 2-3/8 inch and 2-3/4 inch backset and an Arrow A keyway cylinder drilled for 6 pins.
22) Is the BEST 8T a replacement for the Arrow E64?
No. The BEST 8T is a tubular deadbolt tube component in the T Series, that is the bolt assembly on its own rather than a finished lock. The Arrow E64 is a complete keyed deadlock supplied with a cylinder, two brass keys on standard versions, two 1/4 inch steel thru-bolts, and the 346 wood frame strike.
23) What replaces the Arrow E64 if I want keypad or credential access instead of a key?
The Delaney KP400 is a Grade 2 electronic deadbolt with a programmable remote, matching the Arrow E64 on grade. The Codelocks CL2200 is an electronic surface deadbolt in a brushed steel finish, medium duty, in the CL2000 Series, and the CL2210 is the mortise electronic deadbolt version. The Dormakaba Saffire LX-D is an RFID electronic deadbolt with BLE and electronic lock override. The E64 is a mechanical keyed deadlock with an Arrow A keyway cylinder.
24) Is the Falcon H2101 interconnected lock an alternative to the Arrow E64?
It solves a different problem. The Falcon H2101 is a Grade 2 entrance interconnected lock with a single cylinder deadbolt in the H2 Series, so the lever and the deadbolt retract together for single-motion egress. The Arrow E64 is a standalone Grade 2 classroom function deadlock, cylinder x thumbturn, which means the door still needs separate latching hardware to have a working handle.
25) I need a deadbolt with no keyway on the outside for a rear service door. What is that instead of the Arrow E64?
The Callan 205S is a Grade 3 one-sided half-bore deadbolt, which prepares only one face of the door and gives no outside keyway at all. The Arrow E64 is a keyed deadlock with a cylinder outside and a thumbturn inside, so it always presents a keyway on the exterior face.
26) What finishes does the Arrow E64 deadbolt come in for matching the rest of a building?
Ten finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 609 antique brass, 612 satin bronze, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze equivalent, 619 satin nickel, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome, and BSP black suede powder coat. Every finish is offered with all four cylinder choices, so you can standardize the look across a floor and still vary how each opening is keyed.
