Standard features 

  • Lock Chassis: Cold rolled steel with zinc dichromate finish for corrosion resistance. Requires standard 2-1/8" (53.97mm) bore through door.
  • Door thickness: Fits 1-3/8" (34.93mm) to 1-3/4" (44.45mm) doors standard.
  • Backset: 2-3/8" (60.32mm) standard. 2-3/4" (69.85mm), 3-3/4" (95.25mm) and 5" (127mm) available.
  • Latch: Brass with 1/2" (12.7mm) throw. Latch housing is steel, with zinc dichromate finish for corrosion resistance. 7/8" (22.225mm) bore in edge of door is required.
  • Latch Front: Brass, bronze or stainless steel. Standard faceplate for 2-3/8” (60.32.mm) backset measures 2-1/4” (57.15mm) x 1” (25.40mm) with a flat front, for 2-3/4” (69.85mm) backset standard faceplate measures 2-1/4” (57.15mm) x 1-1/8” (28.57mm) with beveled front 1/8” (3.17mm) in 2” (50.8mm).
  • Strike: Brass, bronze or stainless steel. Standard “T” strike measures 2-3/4" (69.85mm) x 1-1/8" (28.57mm). Optional ANSI A115.1 strike measures 4-7/8" (123.82mm) x 1-1/4"(31.75mm). All strikes have a 1-1/4" (31.75mm) lip to center dimension.

1) Will the Arrow MK03 passage knob fit a 1-3/8 inch door, or is it 1-3/4 only?
Both. The MK03 covers 1-3/8 inch through 1-3/4 inch doors as standard, so the same part works on an older interior wood door and on a standard commercial 1-3/4 inch door. It needs a 2-1/8 inch bore through the face and a 7/8 inch bore in the door edge for the latch.
2) What does the MK03 function actually do - can it be locked at all?
No locking of any kind. The MK03 is a communicating/passage function: the deadlocking latchbolt is retracted by the knob on one side only, at all times, and the outside carries non-removable blank trim with no knob and no cylinder. It is not keyed. If you need a room that can be secured from inside, this is the wrong function - a privacy or entrance lock is what you want.
3) Can I put an Arrow MK03 on a fire rated door?
Yes. The MK Series locks are UL and cUL listed for 3 hour, A label or lesser doors, and are certified to ANSI/BHMA A156.2, Series 4000, Grade 2. The MK03 carries ANSI function F111. Stairwell and corridor openings in a commercial building are exactly what it is built for.
4) Will an Arrow MK03 latch into the strike that is already in my frame?
Usually, if the existing strike is a standard T-strike. The MK03 latch throws 1/2 inch and ships with a 300 T-strike measuring 2-3/4 by 1-1/8 inches, with a 1-1/4 inch lip-to-center. An ANSI A115.1 strike at 4-7/8 by 1-1/4 inches is the option if your frame is prepped for the full ANSI cutout. Match the lip-to-center to your frame reveal or the latch will not seat.
5) What backset do I need for an Arrow MK series knob lock, and does it cover a wide stile door?
2-3/8 inch is the standard backset, with 2-3/4 inch, 3-3/4 inch and 5 inch available. The two long backsets are what let you get a knob onto a wide stile or a door with a big rail where the normal 2-3/8 or 2-3/4 will not reach. The faceplate changes with the backset: 2-3/8 inch gets a flat 2-1/4 by 1 inch front, 2-3/4 inch gets a 2-1/4 by 1-1/8 inch front beveled 1/8 inch in 2 inches.
6) Which passage knobsets are alternatives to the MK03 if the door is thicker than 1-3/4 inches?
The Arrow MK03 fits 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors. For a thicker leaf, the Corbin Russwin CK4310 passage/closet cylindrical lock covers 1-3/8 inch to 2 inches, and the Falcon X101 passage knobset covers 1-3/8 inch to 2-1/4 inches. Both are Grade 1 cylindrical passage functions with a knob.
7) What is the closest cross-brand equivalent to the Arrow MK03 passage knob lock?
The Corbin Russwin CK4410 is the nearest match. Both are Grade 2 non-keyed cylindrical passage/closet knob locks, and the CK4410 covers the same 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch door thickness range as the MK03. No. The MK03 has a working deadlocking latchbolt and a live knob on one side. If you want trim only, with nothing to retract, that is a dummy: the Schlage A170 single dummy trim, Grade 2, or the BEST 6K Series single dummy trim, Grade 2, are the non-latching versions. Order the MK03 only when you want the door to latch shut.
17) Does the Arrow MK03 come with mounting screws, or do I need to buy hardware separately?
Wood and machine screws are supplied with the lock, along with the 104 springlatch and the 300 T-strike. Nothing else is needed to hang it on a properly prepped door - the only thing to sort out beforehand is the bore: 2-1/8 inch through the face, 7/8 inch in the edge.
18) Can I standardize a whole building on Arrow MK series and mix keyed and non-keyed openings?
That is what the series is built for. Keyed MK locks use a solid brass 6 pin cylinder in the Arrow A keyway, keyed to 5 pin for stock, and can be masterkeyed, grandmaster keyed and construction masterkeyed, with Schlage CS and other competitive keyways available. The MK03 is the non-keyed passage member of the same family, so corridor and communicating doors share the chassis, bore, latch and finish with the keyed openings on the same key system.
19) The opening needs a key - what keyed knob lock pairs with an MK03 passage on the rest of the doors?
The MK03 is non-keyed, so a keyed opening needs a different function.
