The RL Series has been enhanced to offer removable throughbolts and a wide variety of designs, finishes and functions. The RL Series cylindrical locksets are an economical value for a variety of application. Perfect for multi-family housing markets, as well as light commercial applications.

  • Construction: Cold rolled steel with zinc dichromate finish for corrosion resistance. Requires standard 2-1/8" (53.97mm) bore through door.
  • Door thickness: Fits 1-3/8" (34.93mm) to 1-3/4" (44.45mm) doors standard.
  • Backset: 2-3/8" (60.31mm) or 2-3/4" (69.85mm).

1) What does the communicating function on the Arrow RL03 lever lock actually do on the door?
The RL03 operates the latchbolt from the inside lever only. The outside face gets a blank rose with no lever and no keyway, so there is no way to retract the latch from outside the room. It is used where you want free egress from inside a connecting room but no access from the other side. If you need the door operable from both sides, this is the wrong function.
2) Will an Arrow RL03 fit a 1-3/8 inch door, or only 1-3/4?
Both. The RL03 covers 1-3/8 inch through 1-3/4 inch doors as standard, which is the common older interior thickness through the standard commercial thickness. It goes into a standard 2-1/8 inch cross bore.
3) Does the Arrow RL03 lever need to be ordered left or right hand?
No handing to specify. The RL03 is non-handed, so one part number works on either swing. You do decide which side of the door is the inside, since that is the side that gets the working lever and the blank rose goes opposite.
4) What latch and strike ship with the Arrow RL03, and will it work in my existing frame prep?
Standard is the R73 springlatch on a 2-3/4 inch backset with an R62 ASA strike measuring 4-7/8 x 1-1/4 inches, and the latch face is 1-1/8 x 2-1/4 inches. Throw is 1/2 inch. If your frame is already cut for a 4-7/8 ASA strike, it drops in. The RL Series is also available on a 2-3/8 inch backset, and that backset uses a 1 x 2-1/4 inch latch front instead, so measure from the door edge to the center of the bore before ordering. Frames prepped for a 2-3/4 inch T strike or a 2-1/4 inch full lip strike are covered by the series as well.
5) What is the closest Grade 2 cylindrical lever substitute for an Arrow RL03 communicating lock?
The Arrow RL03 is a Grade 2 non-keyed cylindrical lever whose function is latchbolt by inside lever only, with a blank rose on the outside. Because that outside face is blank, the nearest Grade 2 cylindrical lever peers operate differently: the Falcon B101 is a Grade 2 medium duty cylindrical passage lever, and the Accentra 5301LN Augusta is a Grade 2 cylindrical lever in passage/closet function. For a higher-traffic opening, the Falcon K101 is a Grade 1 heavy duty passage cylindrical lock rated for 1-3/8 inch to 2-1/4 inch doors and fire rated, the Falcon T101 is a Grade 1 heavy duty passage lever, and the Corbin Russwin CL3110 is a Grade 1 vandal resistant passage/closet lever for 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch doors and fire rated. All three are passage function, so they operate from both sides rather than reproducing the RL03 blank outside rose.
7) Is a dummy lever the same thing as the Arrow RL03 communicating lock?
No. The Arrow RL03 has a working latchbolt retracted by the inside lever, with a blank rose outside, so the door actually latches. A dummy trim has no latch at all and is surface applied for pull only. The Arrow RL03 is non-keyed with a blank outside rose, so it cannot accept an outside cylinder.
