1) Will the Arrow RK01 passage knob fit a 1-3/8 inch interior door?
Yes. The RK01 passage knobset covers doors from 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inches as standard, so it suits both older interior doors at 1-3/8 and standard commercial doors at 1-3/4. It needs a standard 2-1/8 inch bore through the door and a 2-3/8 or 2-3/4 inch backset, which is what almost any existing bored-lock prep already is.
2) Does the Arrow RK01 lock or take a key?
No. RK01 is passage function only, non-keyed: the latchbolt is operated by the knob from either side and there is no locking, no button, no cylinder. Use it on halls, closets and corridor doors where you only need the door to latch shut. If the room needs to lock from inside, you want a privacy function instead, and for a keyed opening an entrance or storeroom function.
3) Does the Arrow RK01 knob need to be ordered left hand or right hand?
No handing to specify. The RK01 is non-handed, so one part works on a left or right swinging door and on either an in-swing or out-swing. That matters if you are stocking spares for a building: one part number covers every opening.
4) Will the Arrow RK01 latch work with the strike already in my frame?
Usually, and here is how to check. The latch throws 1/2 inch, which is the normal bored-lock throw, so an existing strike pocket will take it. What decides it is the strike face. The RK01 ships standard with an R60 T-strike measuring 2-3/4 x 1-1/8 inches. If your frame is cut for a 4-7/8 inch ANSI strike, that is available too, as is a 2-1/4 inch full lip strike. Match the strike to the cutout that is already in the frame and you avoid patching.
5) What backset and latch does the Arrow RK01 come with, and what if my doors are 2-3/4 inch backset?
Standard is the R72 springlatch at 2-3/8 inch backset with a 1 x 2-1/4 inch faceplate. The 2-3/4 inch backset is also offered and carries a 1-1/8 x 2-1/4 inch front instead. Measure from the door edge to the center of the bore: 2-3/8 is typical on residential and multi-family openings, 2-3/4 on commercial. Specify the backset when you order or the faceplate will not sit in the existing latch mortise.
6) Is the Arrow RK01 knob strong enough for apartment corridors and light commercial doors?
It is a Grade 2 commercial cylindrical lock built on cold rolled steel with a zinc dichromate coating for corrosion resistance, and it carries the ANSI/BHMA F75 passage function designation. That is the normal specification for multi-family and light commercial traffic. For a high-abuse opening like a school corridor or a busy institutional door, step up to a Grade 1 passage knob such as the Schlage D10S or the Falcon X101.
7) Passage or privacy knob for a bathroom or bedroom door?
Passage will not do it. The RK01 latches only, with no way to lock from inside, which is right for halls and closets but wrong for a bathroom or bedroom. For those openings take a privacy knob such as the Dexter C2000 Grade 2 privacy ball knob or the Cal-Royal BER20. If the door only needs to look right and never latch at all, a dummy trim like the Schlage A170 or BEST 6K single dummy is the cheaper answer.
8) What is the closest equivalent to the Arrow RK01 passage knob from another brand?
Straight across, the Corbin Russwin CK4410 is the nearest match: Grade 2, non-keyed passage, global knob, same 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch door range. The Dexter C2000 passage ball knob is also Grade 2 non-keyed over the same thickness range and is the closest by knob shape. Falcon's W101 is Grade 2 passage as well and is listed with a 2-3/4 inch backset, so it suits a commercial prep. If the opening takes real abuse, the Grade 1 options are the Corbin Russwin CK4310 or the Schlage D10S.
9) The door is thicker than 1-3/4 inch - which knob lock covers it?
The Arrow RK01 fits doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch. For thicker leaves, the Corbin Russwin CK4310 passage/closet knob covers 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch, the Falcon X101 passage knobset covers 1-3/8 inch to 2-1/4 inch, and the Deltana 6171 round knob entry covers 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch. Measure the leaf at the bore before ordering.
10) What passage knob should I use on a high-traffic corridor door instead of a Grade 2 lockset?
For openings that take more cycles than a Grade 2 knob is built for, the Schlage D10S is a Grade 1 heavy duty cylindrical passage knob lock with an orbit knob, and the Falcon X101 is a Grade 1 heavy duty cylindrical passage knobset that is fire rated and takes an interchangeable core, fitting doors 1-3/8 inch to 2-1/4 inch. The Corbin Russwin CK4310 is Grade 1 passage/closet with a global knob for doors 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch. The Arrow RK01 is Grade 2, suited to multi-family and light commercial openings.
11) Is a dummy knob the same thing as a passage knob?
No. The Arrow RK01 is a passage lockset - the latchbolt is operated by the knob from either side, so it actually latches the door closed. A dummy knob has no latch at all and is surface mounted as pull trim: the BEST 6K single dummy trim is a Grade 2 non-keyed cylindrical knob, the Schlage A170 is a Grade 2 heavy duty single dummy trim for doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-7/8 inch, and the Cal-Royal BA40 is a dummy knob for doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch. Order a dummy only for an inactive leaf or a door held by a ball catch.
12) I ordered a passage knob but the room needs to lock from the inside - what do I order instead?
A passage knob such as the Arrow RK01 is non-keyed and has no locking function; the latchbolt simply retracts from either side. For a bedroom or bathroom that needs a push-button or turn lock inside, the Dexter C2000 privacy ball knob is Grade 2 for doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch, the Cal-Royal BER20 is a Grade 3 privacy knob with brass trim for the same thickness range, and the Pamex FTF Baron is a Grade 3 privacy knob lockset. 13) What finishes does the Arrow RK01 ball knob come in, and can I match the rest of the building?
Six finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 612 satin bronze, 613 oil-rubbed satin bronze, 629 bright stainless and 630 satin stainless. Those are standard BHMA finish numbers, so if the hardware already on your other doors is marked 626 or 630 or 605 you can match by number rather than by eye. 630 satin stainless is the usual commercial default. The roses are wrought brass, 2-1/2 inches in diameter, and total projection off the door face is 2-3/4 inches.
14) What do I need to buy besides the Arrow RK01 to finish the install?
Nothing extra for a normal wood or hollow metal door with existing prep. The RK01 comes with the latch, the strike and both wood and machine screws, so you have the fasteners for either substrate in the box. Confirm the door is bored 2-1/8 inches through with the correct backset edge bore, and pick the strike that matches your frame cutout.
15) Can I standardize an apartment building on Arrow RK Series with keyed and non-keyed doors matching?
