1) How does the Arrow QL97 classroom lock work when the door is locked?
Classroom function: the latchbolt is operated by the lever from either side except when the key on the outside locks the outside lever. The inside lever is always free, so anyone in the room can get out at any time. The key outside locks and unlocks the outside lever only, which means the teacher has to step into the corridor to secure the door. If staff need to lock the room from inside without opening the door, a classroom security or intruder-type function with an inside cylinder is the one to specify instead.
2) Will the Arrow QL97 lever lock fit a 1-3/8 inch door, and what door prep does it need?
The QL97 fits 1-3/8 inch through 1-3/4 inch doors as standard and drops into a standard 2-1/8 inch cross bore with a 2-3/4 inch backset. Latch face is 1-1/8 x 2-1/4 inches. If the existing prep is a 2-3/8 inch backset, the hole centers will not line up. Wood and machine screws are included, so it goes into either a wood or a hollow metal door.
3) Will the Arrow QL lever latch into the strike already in my frame?
The lock ships with a Q71 deadlatch on a 2-3/4 inch backset with a 1/2 inch throw, and a 306 ANSI strike measuring 4-7/8 x 1-1/4 inches. If your frame is prepped for a standard 4-7/8 inch ANSI strike, the supplied strike drops straight in. A frame cut for a small T-strike or a 2-3/4 inch full-lip strike needs new prep, because 1/2 inch of throw leaves no room to bridge a gap.
4) Can the Arrow QL97 be ordered to take our existing small format interchangeable core?
Yes. Three cylinder choices are offered: the standard 6-pin key-in-lever cylinder, an SFIC prep less core, and a Medeco LFIC prep less core. On both interchangeable core versions the core is not included, so if you already run an SFIC system, order the IC prep and drop in your own cores. That is the version to buy if the facility is keyed on a house system you control.
5) What keyway does the Arrow QL97 come in, and can a set of locks be keyed alike?
The standard cylinder is solid brass, 6-pin, supplied keyed different in either an Arrow A or Schlage C keyway, with two brass keys. Keying is a selection when ordering: keyed different is standard, keyed alike is available if you want a run of classrooms on one key, and a key code can be entered if you are matching an existing system. Choosing an SFIC or LFIC prep means selecting no keying, since you supply the core.
6) My doors are 2 inches thick. Will the Arrow QL lever lock work?
No. The QL covers 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch doors only, so a 2 inch door is outside its range. For thicker leaves, the Falcon K101 Grade 1 cylindrical lock covers 1-3/8 to 2-1/4 inches, and the Corbin Russwin CL3100 Series covers 1-3/4 to 2 inches. Both are Grade 1, though they are passage function rather than classroom, so check the function you need against the model you order.
7) What is the difference between a classroom lock like the Arrow QL97 and a storeroom lever?
On the Arrow QL97 the key outside locks or unlocks the outside lever and it stays in that state until keyed again, with the inside lever always free. A storeroom lever such as the Cal-Royal AG05, a Grade 2 storeroom lockset with a deadlocking latchbolt for doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch, or the Hager 2580 Grade 2 storeroom lever for doors 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch, keeps the outside lever locked at all times and the key only passes through momentarily. They are not interchangeable functions even though both are keyed cylindrical levers.
8) The classroom door needs to release on a fire alarm signal - what do I specify instead of the Arrow QL97?
