Codelocks ASA – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Codelocks ASA strike plate work with a CL600 or CL5000 lock?
Those are exactly the two locks it's built for. The ASA strike plate is listed as suitable for the Codelocks CL600 and CL5000 mechanical lock models, so if you're replacing a damaged strike or prepping a new frame for either of those, this is the matching part. It won't be the right strike for other Codelocks families.
2) Which way does the Codelocks ASA strike plate mount, vertical or horizontal?
Vertical. The ASA strike is a vertical-orientation plate, which is the long-axis strike prep you get in a standard commercial ASA frame cutout. If your frame is prepped for a short horizontal T-strike or a round drive-in strike, this plate won't drop into that mortise.
3) Can I use a Kwikset or Deltana strike plate instead of the Codelocks ASA plate?
Not as a like-for-like swap. The peers we stock are deadbolt strikes for residential-style prep, the Deltana SP2753 at 2-3/4 by 1-1/4 inches, the Emtek 83223 square-corner deadbolt strike, and the Kwikset 80318 full round adjustable strike. Those catch a deadbolt in a wood jamb. The Codelocks ASA plate is a vertical commercial strike matched to the CL600 and CL5000. Different prep, different bolt.
4) What is the difference between the Codelocks ASA strike plate and a standard deadbolt strike plate like the Emtek 83223?
They serve different lock hardware. The Codelocks CL-ASA is an ASA-format strike plate in stainless steel with a vertical orientation, made for the Codelocks CL600 and CL5000 lock models. The Emtek 83223 is a standard deadbolt strike plate with square corners. A deadbolt strike is prepped for a bolt throw only, so it is not a substitute for the ASA cutout a CL600 or CL5000 latch needs.
5) Does the Codelocks ASA strike plate come with a dust box behind it?
The ASA strike is the plate alone. If your jamb needs a box behind the bolt hole, that's a separate part, and we stock strike boxes such as the Kwikset 81640 strike box and the Kwikset 81231-001 metal strike dust box. Check what your frame prep actually calls for before adding one.
6) My jamb prep is out of alignment with the bolt. Will the Codelocks ASA strike plate let me adjust it?
The Codelocks CL-ASA is a fixed ASA plate for the CL600 and CL5000 locks, mounted in a vertical orientation. For an out-of-line prep, the adjustable strikes are the ones to look at: the Kwikset 80318 is a full round adjustable strike and the Kwikset 81825 is a 6 way adjustable deadlatch, both with a deadbolt strike plate function. Those suit bored deadbolt and deadlatch preps rather than an ASA cutout.
7) Is a strike box the same thing as a strike plate?
No, and they are often ordered together. The Kwikset 81640 is a strike box and the Kwikset 81231-001 is a metal strike dust box - these are the cup that lines the bolt hole behind the jamb face. The Codelocks CL-ASA is the face plate itself, a zinc alloy ASA strike with a stainless steel finish that mounts vertically on the jamb. If you are replacing a damaged jamb face plate, the CL-ASA is the part; if the bolt pocket behind it needs lining, that is a box.
8) Which strike plate holds up on an exterior commercial door?
The Codelocks CL-ASA is rated for commercial use and suitable for both internal and external doors, built from zinc alloy with a stainless steel finish. It is the ASA plate for the CL600 and CL5000 lock models. The Deltana SP2753 is a steel deadbolt strike plate at 2-3/4 inches by 1-1/4 inches, which is a residential-scale deadbolt prep rather than an ASA jamb cutout.
9) Is the Codelocks ASA strike plate rated for commercial use?
It's a commercial-duty part, in stainless steel over zinc alloy, and it pairs with the CL600 and CL5000 code locks that turn up on office, multi-family, and light institutional openings. For a facility standardizing on those locks, keeping a few ASA plates on the shelf covers the most common strike failure.
10) What finish options does the Codelocks ASA strike plate come in?
Stainless steel is the only finish it's made in, so there's no finish to select when ordering. On a satin stainless or brushed chrome frame it blends; against an aged bronze or black opening it will read as a contrast.
