1) Do I have to order a left hand or right hand KL1000 Classic+?
The lock itself is non handed and fits doors hung left or right, but you do pick an orientation when you order: Vertical, Left Hand Horizontal, or Right Hand Horizontal. That choice is about how the keypad sits on the door face, so measure the door and decide whether the lock reads up-and-down or across before you place the order.
2) What is the difference between Private and Public function on a KitLock KL1000 Classic+?
Public function is the day-use model: a user picks their own code at the door, uses the locker, and clears it. Private function assigns fixed codes that stay put, and the Classic+ holds up to 20 different 4 digit user codes so one cabinet can be shared by a whole group. Both modes are on the same lock, so a facility can run gym lockers one way and a laptop store the other with the same part on the shelf.
3) Can a locker lock unlock itself at the end of the day instead of staff opening each one?
That is what the Classic+ adds over the standard KL1000. Running in Public function it can be programmed to auto-unlock between 1 and 24 hours after it was locked, so lockers a user walked away from open themselves overnight rather than a manager working down the row with the master code.
4) What happens if the batteries die while a locker is locked?
You are not drilling the door. The KL1000 Classic+ has a battery override: hold a 9 volt PP3 battery against the external contacts on the keypad and enter the code as normal. Before that point a red LED flashes on opening to warn the cells are low, and codes are held in non-volatile memory so nothing is lost when power drops. It runs on 2 x AAA cells, supplied, good for up to 15,000 openings.
5) How does the KL1000 Classic+ latch, and do I need a slam latch?
It ships as a cam lock, so the standard install turns a cam behind the door into a keep. If you want doors that lock by pushing them shut rather than by entering a code, a slam latch accessory is available for the KL1000 and installs in place of the cam.
6) Can I stop staff from sharing or resetting locker codes?
Codes on the KL1000 Classic+ are tiered, so you can hand out access without handing over control. There is an 8 digit Master and Sub-Master code, a 6 digit Technician code, and 4 digit codes for standard users. Facilities keeps the master, a supervisor gets the sub-master, and maintenance gets the technician code. All code changes are made on the keypad at the door, so there is no software or cabling to set up.
7) Can the KL1000 Classic+ be used on outdoor lockers or in a wet area?
Yes, with the gasket fitted it is IP55 rated and Codelocks rates it for internal or external use, which covers pool and changing room lockers and sheltered outdoor bays. The body is mixed plastic and alloy rather than stainless, so it is not a marine or washdown part.
