KL1000 RFID Kitlock Locker Lock

The KL1000 RFID is a simple, smart card KitLock providing codeless and keyless access to lockers, cabinets, cupboards and enclosures.

The KL1000 RFID KitLock offers functions for single users (Private Function) and short term use by multiple users (Public Function). The KL1000 RFID can be easily fitted to replace an existing cam lock, or to fit to a new locker or cabinet that does not have an existing locking device. The lock will perform up to 15,000 openings on just two AAA batteries.

1) Is the Codelocks KL1000 RFID handed, and can it mount sideways?
Non handed. The KL1000 RFID can be installed in any orientation, and it is set up for vertical, left handed or right handed mounting, so you order one part for every door in a bank of lockers regardless of which way they swing.
2) Does the KL1000 RFID locker lock use a code or a card?
Card only. This is the RFID version of the KitLock, so access is codeless and keyless using smart cards, and it supports MIFARE Classic credentials. If your facility wants users punching a PIN instead, the RFID model is not the right choice.
3) Can one KL1000 RFID lock be shared by different users in a gym or day-use locker room?
Yes. The KitLock KL1000 RFID runs a Private Function for a single assigned user and a Public Function for short term use by multiple users, with a Public Pairing feature so a user's card claims a free locker and releases it afterward. That is what makes it workable for gyms, pools and shared staff lockers as well as assigned employee lockers.
4) What happens if the batteries die while a locker is locked?
There is a battery override: hold a 9 volt PP3 battery against the external contacts to power the lock and open it. Before that point a red LED flashes on opening to warn of low battery, and the non-volatile memory keeps the card programming even with the batteries out, so you don't reprogram after a swap. It runs on 2 x 1.5V AAA cells, supplied, for up to 15,000 openings.
5) Is the KL1050 the same lock as the KL1000 RFID?
Same lock, new name. The KL1000 RFID was previously sold as the KL1050, which is why Codelocks' KL1050 installation and programming documents apply to it. If you already have KL1050 units in service, this is the current replacement for them.
6) Is the Codelocks KL1000 RFID rated for outdoor lockers?
No. It is specified for internal use only, so pool-deck, marina or exterior yard lockers are the wrong application. Keep it to indoor locker rooms, cabinets, cupboards and enclosures.
7) Does the KL1000 RFID latch shut on its own, or do I have to turn something?
As supplied it uses a cam latch, so the door is secured by the rotating cam and is not a self-latching setup. Codelocks offers a slam latch accessory if you want the door to catch when it is pushed closed, and that is ordered separately from the lock.
8) Who can program the cards on a KL1000 RFID, and what cards do I need on hand?
Two administrative levels: a Master User Card for the facility owner and a Technician Card for maintenance or service work. Keep both in the office before you commission a bank of lockers, because user cards are enrolled with the Master card. End user credentials are MIFARE Classic smart cards.
9) What is the Codelocks locker lock body made of, and will it hold up in a busy facility?
The lock is zinc alloy, and it is specified for commercial use. The 15,000 opening battery life per set of AAA cells gives you a sense of the service interval in a high-traffic locker room: heavier daily use means more frequent battery changes, not a different lock.
10) What finish does this Codelocks KitLock come in, and does it match other units?
This one is Silver Grey. Codelocks builds the KL1000 RFID in Silver Grey and Black, so if you are standardizing across an existing bank of lockers, order all units in the same one.
