Through the online Codelocks Connect Portal or via the Codelocks simple API (application programming interface), you can create codes that have a specified start date, time and duration. Once the duration expires, the codes no longer work. Using time-sensitive codes is a more secure way to grant access as the code will not work outside a designated timeslot. 1) Does the KL1000 NetCode need wiring or a wifi connection to issue time-limited codes?
No wiring and no wireless. The KL1000 NetCode is a standalone battery lock, and that is the whole point of NetCode: codes are generated on the web through the Codelocks Connect Portal or through the Codelocks API, then sent to the user by email or SMS. The lock itself never talks to a network. It validates the code offline because the code is calculated against the lock's own clock. For a property manager that means no cabling in the locker bank and no access panel to power.
2) Can the KL1000 NetCode be used for both day-use lockers and assigned lockers?
Yes, it runs three modes. Public mode is the day-use pattern, where a user picks their own code, locks up and the code clears on opening so the next person can use the locker. Private mode holds a fixed code for a locker assigned to one person. NetCode mode is the third: a time-sensitive code with a set start date, time and duration, which expires on its own. NetCode comes in Standard Multi Use, Standard Single Use, Rental 365, and Rental 1 to 21 Days, which is what covers medium-term locker rental, drop boxes and visiting service techs.
3) Can I put the Codelocks KL1000 NetCode on outdoor lockers or in a pool changing room?
It's rated for internal and external use, and it reaches IP55 when fitted with the gasket, so wash-down and weather exposure are covered. One hard exclusion: it is not suitable for a chlorine environment. That rules out pool decks, indoor pool changing rooms and anywhere with chlorine dosing equipment. For those, specify a lock built for chlorine exposure instead.
4) What happens if the batteries die while someone's belongings are locked in the locker?
There's a battery override. A 9 volt PP3 battery held against the external contacts on the lock powers it long enough to enter a code and open the door, so nothing gets trapped and no drilling is needed. Before that point the lock warns you: a red LED flashes three times before unlocking when the batteries are getting low. Codes and settings are held in non-volatile memory, so a dead battery or a battery change does not wipe your programming.
5) How often will maintenance have to change batteries in a bank of KL1000 locker locks?
Each lock runs on 2 x AAA batteries and gives up to 15,000 operations per set. On a day-use locker cycled a few times a day that's years between changes; on a high-traffic gym or shift locker it's the number to divide your daily open count into when you plan an MRO schedule. Batteries are the only consumable, and the override contacts mean a flat lock is still openable while you're getting to it.
6) Who can open or reprogram a KL1000 NetCode lock, and can I stop staff from changing codes?
There are four user levels: Master, Sub Master, Technician and User. Master holds full programming rights, Sub Master gives a limited set for a supervisor or front desk, Technician is for maintenance access without handing over the Master Code, and User is the ordinary locker code. User types are plain codes and NetCodes. All code changes are made on the keypad at the door, so there's no software to install on site for day-to-day changes, and only whoever holds the Master Code can restructure the lock.
7) Is the KL1000 NetCode keypad tough enough for a gym or school locker bank?
The lock body is zinc alloy, not plastic, in a Silver Grey finish, and the keypad is 11 individual round buttons (2 x 5 plus a programming button) rather than a membrane pad, so there's no film to split or peel in heavy use. It's built as commercial hardware. Buttons being individual also means a worn single button is a lock issue, not a whole-panel failure.
8) If I'm standardizing a whole locker room, do all the KL1000 NetCode locks match?
Every KL1000 NetCode KitLock in this configuration ships in the one finish, Silver Grey, so a bank ordered across several purchase orders still matches. Non handed means one part number covers every door in the room regardless of hinge side, which keeps the spare count down: one lock on the shelf backs up the whole facility. Model designation is KL1000NC.
9) Should I use a NetCode lock or a plain code locker lock?
It comes down to whether you need codes to expire. A standard code lock is set on the keypad and stays valid until somebody changes it, which is fine for lockers assigned long term to the same person. The KL1000 NetCode adds codes generated remotely with a start date, time and duration, after which they stop working on their own. That's what you want for short-term locker rental, a parcel drop box, or letting a service engineer into a cabinet on Tuesday morning only, without anyone visiting the lock afterwards to revoke access. The KL1000 does both, since Private and Public modes are still on board.
10) Do I need anything else to install the KL1000 KitLock, or does it come complete?
All parts, fixings and templates are in the box, so the install is a template, a drill and a screwdriver, and it takes 2 x AAA batteries to run. The gasket is what gets you the IP55 rating, so fit it if the location sees any moisture. What is not in the box is the 9 volt PP3 battery for the override, and that's worth keeping in the maintenance kit rather than buying it after you're locked out.
