1) Can the KL1000 G3 replace the keyed cam locks on our existing lockers?
That is exactly what this lock is built for. The KL1000 G3 replaces keyed cam locks on lockers, cabinets and cupboards, and it uses the same fittings and fixings as the KL1000 Classic, so an existing KL1000 installation swaps straight over. It works with either a cam or a slam latch, so match whichever your locker doors already use.
2) Do I have to pick an orientation when ordering the KL1000 G3 KitLock?
Yes, orientation is a required choice: vertical, left hand horizontal, or right hand horizontal. Pick it off how the lock sits on the door face. One catch worth knowing before you order, the NetCode version is vertical only, so if you need a horizontal mount you are ordering the non-NetCode configuration.
3) What is the difference between the NetCode and non-NetCode versions of the KL1000 G3?
NetCode adds date and time specific code generation, issued through the Codelocks app or online portal and sent out by email or SMS, with no WiFi connection at the lock. That is what you want for short term or rotating users, gym day lockers, shared workspaces, guest storage. Without NetCode you still get the 20 user codes, the 24 hour countdown timer, key override and front battery change, programmed at the keypad on the door. NetCode is only offered in the vertical orientation.
4) What happens if the batteries die with someone's belongings locked inside?
Two ways in. A 9 volt PP3 battery held against the external contacts powers the lock long enough to open it, and there is a key override for facility staff. The lock also warns you first, a red LED flashes on opening once the batteries are low, and the codes survive a dead battery because the memory is non-volatile. Batteries are 2 x AAA, changed from the front of the lock, so you are not pulling the lock off the door to service it.
5) Do I need to set a code for every locker user, or can it work for public day use?
Both, and the mode is what you choose. In private mode the code stays fixed to a user, which suits assigned staff or student lockers. In public mode a user sets their own code when they close the door and it clears when they open it, the pattern you want for gym or leisure day lockers. There is also a 24 hour countdown timer that auto-unlocks the door after a set number of hours, so nothing gets left locked shut overnight.
6) How many people can I give codes to on a KitLock KL1000 G3, and how are they managed?
Up to 20 four digit user codes at a time, sitting under an 8 digit master and sub master code and a 6 digit technician code. Four user levels in all: master, sub master, technician and user. Codes are changed at the keypad on the door, so a maintenance tech can re-code a bank of lockers without a laptop or a cable. That structure is what makes it workable for a gym or a school where staff need day to day code changes but not full master access.
7) Can the KL1000 G3 be used on outdoor lockers or in a wet area like a pool changing room?
Rated IP54 when fitted with the gasket, and listed as suitable for internal and external use. IP54 covers dust and splashing water from any direction, so a poolside or changing room bank is within its range, as is a sheltered outdoor locker. IP55, which steps up to low pressure water jets, is available as a special order.
