Codelocks CDL-KL1200 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the KL1200 KitLock come in a horizontal version, or is it vertical only?
Both. The KL1200 is offered in a vertical orientation and a right hand horizontal orientation, and you pick one when you order. Vertical is the usual choice for tall locker doors; the right hand horizontal model suits wider cabinet fronts, medical carts, and data rack doors where a tall keypad will not sit on the face. The lock itself is non handed, so the orientation choice is about how the keypad reads on the door, not about which way the door swings.
2) Is the KL1200 KitLock a cam lock or a latch lock?
Cam. The KL1200 drives a cam, so it works on doors and drawers that a cam engages against a frame lip or strike plate, the same way a keyed cam lock does. If your locker uses a slam latch instead of a cam, Codelocks offers a slam latch accessory for the KL1200 range.
3) Can the KL1200 locker lock be used outdoors or in a pool area?
It is rated for internal and external use, and carries an IP54 rating when fitted with the door gasket, so it handles dust and splashing water. Do not put it in a chlorine environment, which rules out pool decks and chlorine chemical storage. For a wet locker room away from chlorine dosing, the gasketed IP54 build is what you want.
4) How many codes can you set on a Codelocks KL1200, and can staff be given different access than users?
Four code levels: an 8 digit Master Code, an 8 digit Sub-Master Code, a 4 digit User Code, and a 6 digit Technician Code. That maps to how a facility actually runs, the facilities manager holds the Master, a supervisor holds the Sub-Master, maintenance gets the Technician code, and the person using the locker sets or receives the 4 digit User Code. Codes are changed at the keypad on the door, so there is no software, no wiring, and no cable to pull.
5) What happens to a KL1200 KitLock if the batteries die with someone's belongings locked inside?
There is a battery override, a 9 volt PP3 battery held against the external contacts powers the lock so you can enter a code and open the door. Before that point, a red LED flashes on opening to warn the batteries are low. The non-volatile memory keeps all programmed codes through a dead battery or a battery change, so nothing needs reprogramming afterwards.
6) How often will I have to change batteries on a fleet of KitLock KL1200 locks?
Each lock runs on 2 x AAA cells, supplied, and gives up to 50,000 openings per set. For a day-use locker bank opened a few times a day, that is a long service interval, and the low battery LED tells you which lock to visit rather than you swapping the whole bank on a schedule. Budget AAA cells, not a proprietary pack.
7) What is the difference between the KitLock KL1200 and the KL1000 Classic?
The KL1200 carries everything the KL1000 Classic does and is built tougher for harder-use sites. The added items are the extra programming features, 11 individual stainless steel buttons on the keypad, two independent fixing points rather than one, and more openings per battery set. If you are specifying lockers for a school, gym, warehouse, or hospital where the lock takes daily abuse, the KL1200 is the one in that family built for it.
8) Can a KitLock KL1200 be set to unlock automatically at the end of the day?
Yes, it has an auto unlock facility, so lockers can be released rather than left holding a code overnight. That is what makes it work for day-use lockers at a gym, pool changing area, or hotel where a fresh user gets the locker each session and you do not want staff hand-clearing the bank.
9) Is the Codelocks KL1200 tough enough for a school or hospital locker bank?
It is a commercial-rated lock with a zinc alloy body and stainless steel buttons, fixed with two independent fixing points so it does not pivot or work loose from being yanked on. Codelocks lists it for offices, schools, warehouses, hospitals, care homes, nurseries, hotels, and leisure facilities, and for cabinets, lockers, cupboards, medical carts, data racks, and safes.
10) Does the KL1200 KitLock need wiring or a network connection?
No. It is a standalone battery lock, powered by 2 AAA cells, and codes are programmed at the keypad on the door. There is no cable to run, no controller, and no software, which is why it goes into existing lockers and cabinets without touching the electrical scope of the job. The keypad beeps on each press so the user knows the entry registered.
11) Will the KL1200 match the other locks in my locker room, and can I get it in a color?
The stock finish is silver grey, which is what you are matching against if you are adding to an existing KitLock bank. Codelocks will produce the lock in RAL colours on request, though minimum order quantities apply, so that route is for a full room or building refit rather than a handful of replacements.
