1) Should I get the RFID card version or the keypad version of the KL1100?
Both front plate options exist on the KL1100. Go RFID if you want to issue and manage credentials centrally, for example a gym or leisure centre handing out cards, fobs or wristbands at a reception desk; it reads MIFARE Classic 1k credentials and supports Remote Card Authorisation through offline or cloud software. Go keypad (KPD) if you would rather users set or be given a code and you do not want to stock and replace physical credentials. Either plate comes in Gloss Black or Metallic Silver.
2) Can the KL1100 locker lock be used in a public gym where different people use the same locker each day?
Yes. It runs in both Private and Public function. Public mode suits day-use lockers where a different person takes the locker each visit, while Private mode assigns a locker to one user long term, as in a staff room or student locker. Date and time based features let you set operation to your facility hours.
3) What happens if the batteries die while someone's belongings are locked inside?
Two ways out. The lock takes temporary power from a 5V micro USB source so you can connect a power bank at the front and open it, and there is an override code plus a Master Card for management access. Before it gets that far, a red LED flashes three times before unlocking as a low battery warning. Programming sits in non-volatile memory, so a battery change does not wipe your card or code setup.
4) Can I use the Codelocks KL1100 on outdoor lockers or in a wet pool area?
It is rated for internal use only, so do not put it on exterior lockers. It does carry an IP55 rating when fitted with the gasket, which covers dust and splashing in a humid changing room or poolside locker room, but that is not the same as an outdoor-rated lock.
5) What else do I need to order with the KL1100 to finish the job?
The lock ships with its batteries, but three things are sold separately and often needed. The plug-in Keypad Programmer is what you use for local management at the lock. The pull handle is the option to add where the locker has to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. And for the RFID version you need MIFARE Classic 1k cards, fobs or wristbands for your users, plus the offline or cloud software if you want to manage credentials from a reception desk rather than run the lock standalone.
6) Does the KL1100 KitLock need to be wired in?
No wiring. It runs on 4 x 1.5 volt AA batteries, which are supplied, and it is rated for up to 100,000 operations. That makes it a straight retrofit onto an existing locker bank with no cabling back to a panel, which is the usual reason facilities pick it over a networked locker system.
7) Do users have to turn a knob to lock the KL1100, or does it latch on its own?
It uses a powered latch with push-shut closing, so the user just pushes the door and it secures. There is no knob to turn and nothing for a member to forget, which is the main reason it gets specified for high-turnover day lockers where staff otherwise spend the shift closing doors properly.
8) What card types does the KL1100 RFID support, and can I run it without software?
Credentials are MIFARE Classic 1k, in card, fob or wristband form. Client types are Master, Technician, User, Initialisation, Block and Audit. You can run it in Standalone Mode with no software at all, using the Master and Technician cards at the lock, or in RCA (Remote Card Authorisation) mode through the offline or cloud based software when you want to issue and cancel cards from a desk.
