1) What cover and gasket do I order with the Thomas & Betts BT-5 conduit body?
The BT-5 takes a CV-4 die cast cover or an SCV-4 stamped aluminum cover, and either a GKV-4 composition gasket or a GKN-4 neoprene gasket. Covers and gaskets are separate items, so if you need the chamber closed up and sealed, put the cover and the gasket on the order with the body. Neoprene (GKN-4) is the one to use where moisture matters.
2) How much wire volume does the BT-5 conduit body give me for splices?
32 cubic inches of wiring chamber. That is what you use to run your box fill calculation for the conductors and splices you intend to put in it, and it is the reason this style of body gets used as a pull and splice point rather than a plain elbow.
3) Is the BT-5 conduit body UL listed, and what is it made of?
UL is the certification carried, and the body is die cast aluminum. It is also RoHS compliant, which matters if you are buying into a spec that requires it. Aluminum means you should avoid direct contact with dissimilar metals in wet or corrosive locations.
4) Can I buy a single BT-5 conduit body, or does it come in a multi-pack?
It is sold each, but the order multiple is 2, so quantities go up in twos. Inner packaging is 2 per carton and the outer carton holds 10. Plan MRO stocking around that, you cannot pick up an odd single.
