Dormakaba 5066-XS-WL-26D-41 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What applications is the Dormakaba Simplex 5000 series mortise lock designed for?
The 5000 series is built for commercial and institutional applications requiring keyless access control. Common uses include schools, offices, healthcare facilities, and multi-family housing. The mortise design provides heavy-duty security for high-traffic environments.
2) Does this lock require left or right hand specification?
Yes, mortise locks are hand-specific. Determine handing by standing outside the secure side of the door. If hinges are on the right, order right hand. If hinges are on the left, order left hand. Verify handing before ordering as this affects the mortise case orientation.
3) What door thickness and preparation is required?
Standard installation fits 1-3/4" thick doors. The mortise case requires a rectangular pocket in the door edge. Follow Dormakaba's template exactly for mortise dimensions and lever/cylinder hole locations. Door weight and construction must support the hardware properly.
4) How many combination codes can be programmed?
The Simplex 5000 series typically allows one primary combination code. The mechanical design uses button sequences rather than electronic programming. Code changes require disassembly of the lock mechanism following manufacturer procedures.
5) What finish options are available?
Dormakaba offers multiple architectural finishes including satin chrome, bright brass, satin brass, dark bronze, and black. Specify finish code when ordering. All components including lever, escutcheon, and buttons will match the selected finish.
6) Does this model include a deadbolt function?
No, this is the lever-only version without deadbolt. The mortise case provides locking through the lever mechanism and latchbolt. For applications requiring additional security, consider models with integrated deadbolt functions.
7) What grade rating does this lock carry?
Dormakaba Simplex 5000 series locks typically meet ANSI Grade 2 commercial standards. This provides suitable security and durability for most commercial applications. Verify specific grade requirements with your local codes and project specifications.
8) Can a key cylinder be added for override access?
Many 5000 series models accommodate key cylinder override options. This allows master key access or emergency entry. Specify cylinder requirements when ordering. Key override typically operates independently of the combination mechanism.
9) What tools are needed for installation?
Installation requires standard door hardware tools including mortising equipment, drill bits, chisels, and screwdrivers. A mortise template is essential for accurate preparation. Consider professional installation for precision fit and proper operation.
10) How is the combination mechanism maintained?
Regular maintenance includes cleaning button faces and checking smooth operation. Lubricate internal mechanisms per manufacturer schedule using approved lubricants. Avoid harsh cleaners that could affect button response or finish integrity.
11) Are replacement parts available?
Yes, Dormakaba provides replacement parts including buttons, springs, levers, and internal components. Keep model and serial numbers for parts ordering. Common wear items include button assemblies and lever return springs.
12) What other Dormakaba lock series are compatible alternatives?
The Dormakaba product line includes 1000, 3000, and 7000 series options with varying features and security levels. Consider electronic options for multi-code capability or audit trail requirements. Verify door preparation compatibility between series.
