1) Will a DynaLock 1300 electric deadbolt fit in a narrow aluminum storefront frame?
That is the case the 1300 mortise electric deadbolt is built for. Mounting depth is only 1-5/8 inches and the backset is 1-5/8 inches, so it goes into headers, lock jambs and door stiles that will not take a conventional deadbolt case. Overall the lock body is 1-1/2 x 8 x 1-5/8 inches, and the lock front is 1-1/2 x 8 x 1/8 inch aluminum. Measure the free depth inside your tube before cutting; 1-5/8 inches is the number to clear.
2) Can the DynaLock 1300 electric deadbolt be used on a wood door or with a panic device?
No on both counts. DynaLock does not recommend the 1300 for wood door installations, and it is not to be used with panic devices. For wood openings or exit-device hardware, look at a different locking method entirely. On a hollow metal or aluminum opening it is fine, and it can be mounted in the frame instead of the door so no power transfer is needed.
3) What happens to the DynaLock 1300 deadbolt when the power goes out?
The bolt spring retracts and the door is free. The 1300 is a fail-safe device: the bolt only projects while the solenoid is energized, so any interruption of power unlocks the opening. That is what you want on an egress-sensitive door and what you do not want on a door that has to stay secured through an outage. If the door must stay locked without power, this is the wrong device.
4) What voltage and current does the DynaLock 1300 electric deadbolt draw?
Power input is installer-configurable for 12 or 24 VAC or VDC, set on the built-in circuit board, so one part number covers either bus. Draw is 0.85A at 12V and 0.45A at 24V. A built-in rectifier accepts AC or DC. Size the supply for continuous duty, because the solenoid holds energized the entire time the door is locked, and run 24V if your home run is long.
5) How do I stop the DynaLock 1300 bolt from firing into the edge of an open door?
Order it with an auto-relock switch. The ARSB ball-type switch only lets the deadbolt project once the door is closed. There is also the ARSM concealed version, same function, but DynaLock does not recommend ARSM on steel doors, so ball type is the pick for hollow metal. Without either switch the bolt throws whenever power is applied, and on an open door that means a bent bolt or a chewed jamb.
6) Can the DynaLock 1300 report bolt and door position back to my access control panel?
Yes, as ordered options. BPS is an SPDT bolt position switch signaling bolt extended or retracted, rated 4A at 24V, used for door interlocks and for syncing bolt position with automatic door operators. Door position comes from DPSB, a ball-type SPDT rated 4A at 24V, or DPSM, a concealed proximity type rated 0.25A at 24V and not recommended for steel doors. You can take both monitoring options plus an auto-relock switch on the same lock.
7) Will the DynaLock 1300 bolt engage deep enough to secure a storefront door?
The bolt is 3/4 inch diameter stainless steel with a 3/4 inch throw, into a 1-1/2 x 4 x 1/8 inch aluminum strike supplied with the lock. That is a short throw compared with a keyed commercial deadbolt, which is why it works in a shallow stile. If you need a full 1 inch throw into a wood or hollow metal frame, a keyed mechanical unit like the Hager 3215 is specified with a 1 inch throw.
8) Is the DynaLock 1300 a replacement for a keyed deadbolt, or something different?
Different animal. The 1300 has no cylinder and no thumbturn: it locks and unlocks electrically from an access control system, with nothing to key. A keyed commercial deadbolt such as the Corbin Russwin DL3011 Grade 1 cylindrical deadlock, or the Grade 1 Accentra D111 with a 2-3/8 inch backset, is what you want if a person needs to operate it with a key at the door. Use the 1300 where the bolt is driven by a card reader, keypad or push button, not by hand.
9) Do I need to run power to the door leaf to install a DynaLock 1300?
Not if you mount it in the frame. The 1300 goes into the header or the lock jamb, which keeps all the wiring in the frame and skips the door loop or hinge transfer entirely. It can also go in the top, vertical or bottom stile of the door, but that route requires a power transfer to the leaf. Frame mounting is the cheaper install on a retrofit, and the MB bracket set exists for cutting into an existing metal frame.
10) What do I have to specify when ordering a DynaLock 1300 electric deadbolt?
Four decisions. Auto-relock switch: none, ARSB ball type, or ARSM concealed. Bolt position switch: yes or no. Door position switch: none, DPSB ball type, or DPSM concealed. And the MB mounting bracket set, one set of four predrilled tabs that makes life easier when you are cutting into an existing metal frame. Voltage is not an ordering decision, it is configured at install for 12 or 24V.
11) Will an electric deadbolt buzz on a quiet corridor or hotel door?
Not this one. The 1300 is specified as silent with no buzzing when energized, because the solenoid is a low voltage continuous duty design with a built-in rectifier rather than an AC-hum coil. That matters on guest room doors, libraries and offices where an audible hum on a permanently energized lock is a complaint waiting to happen.
