DynaLock 5800 Power Supply

Model 5800 Power Supply/Charger, Selectable 12/24VDC Output at 3A Continuous

DynaLock 5800 and 5850 Power Supply/Chargers supply a
regulated 12VDC or 24VDC at 3 Amps nominal continuous
current. They’re housed in hinged, locking steel enclosures
capable of accommodating one or two optional 12AH lead
acid rechargeable standby batteries.
Model 5850 includes a 4-zone power distribution
controlller featuring fused Class 2 outputs individually
rated a 2A each, with selectable fail-safe, fail-secure
power, or isolated dry contact signal operating modes,
supervised fire alarm and access control trigger inputs,
and a cascade facility, allowing controllers from two or
more power supplies to be tied together for simultaneous
fire alarm sequencing.
Models are UL Listed in the US and Canada, CE, FCC and
Industry Canada compliance registered. See page 4 for a
full breakdown of agency listings and registrations.

DynaLock 5800 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the DynaLock 5800 power supply run both 12VDC and 24VDC maglocks?
The 5800 output is selectable, either regulated 12VDC or 24VDC, at 3 amps nominal continuous. It is one setting for the whole unit, not per output, so every lock fed from it runs at the same voltage. If you have a mix of 12V and 24V devices on a job, you need a second supply set to the other voltage.
2) Do I need the 5850 instead of the 5800 for fire alarm release of my maglocks?
Yes. The 5800 is a power supply and battery charger only. Fire alarm drop and access control triggering live in the 5850, which adds a 4-zone distribution controller with fused Class 2 outputs rated 2A each, selectable fail-safe, fail-secure or isolated dry contact modes, supervised fire alarm and access control trigger inputs, and a cascade facility to tie controllers from two or more supplies together for simultaneous fire alarm sequencing. If your maglocks must release on alarm, specify the 5850.
3) What do I order for 24VDC battery backup on a DynaLock 5800?
Battery backup is an order option. For 24VDC standby you take the 12 AH @ 24VDC, 2 Batteries choice, since two 12V 12AH lead acid batteries are wired in series to make 24V. For 12VDC standby it is the 12 AH @ 12VDC, 1 Battery option, and you can also order the supply with no batteries at all. The enclosure accommodates one or two 12AH batteries and battery leads are included.
4) Is the DynaLock 5800 hardwired or does it plug into a wall outlet?
Either. Input is 120-240 VAC, 50-60Hz at 1.4 amps maximum, and you can order the unit with or without a six foot grounded line cord terminating in a NEMA 5-15P plug. Take the cord if you are plugging into a standard receptacle; skip it if the electrician is landing conduit and hardwiring the supply.
5) How much load can I actually put on a DynaLock 5800 if I'm also charging standby batteries?
Total output is 3 amps continuous at the selected voltage. The built-in temperature compensated charger draws up to 1.5 amps maximum charging current while batteries are recovering, so size your lock load with that in mind. Two 600mA maglocks at 24VDC, for example, sit well inside the envelope.
6) Does the DynaLock 5800 come with a tamper switch for the enclosure?
Tamper is an option you pick at order time, three ways: none, a single tamper switch monitoring the enclosure lid, or dual tamper switches monitoring both the lid and the enclosure bottom. Pick dual if your alarm panel supervises the can being pulled off the wall as well as opened.
7) Is the DynaLock 5800 power supply UL Listed?
The 5800 and 5850 are UL Listed in the US and Canada, and are CE, FCC and Industry Canada compliance registered. That matters on institutional and code-reviewed work where the power supply feeding locked egress hardware has to be a listed device.
8) Can the DynaLock 5800 be mounted outdoors or in an unheated area?
Operating range is 32F to 120F (0C to 49C), so an unconditioned but above-freezing space is fine. An exterior wall, a freezer vestibule, or an unheated northern mechanical room that drops below freezing is outside the rating, and lead acid standby batteries lose capacity badly there as well. Mount it in conditioned space and run the lock wiring out.
