DynaLock 5800 Power Supply

Model 5850 Power Supply/Charger, Selectable 12/24VDC Output at 3A Continuous,
4-Zone Distribution Controller with Supervised Fire Alarm Interface

DynaLock 5800 and 5850 Power Supply/Chargers supply a
regulated 12VDC or 24VDC at 3 Amps nominal continuous
current. They’re housed in hinged, locking steel enclosures
capable of accommodating one or two optional 12AH lead
acid rechargeable standby batteries.
Model 5850 includes a 4-zone power distribution
controlller featuring fused Class 2 outputs individually
rated a 2A each, with selectable fail-safe, fail-secure
power, or isolated dry contact signal operating modes,
supervised fire alarm and access control trigger inputs,
and a cascade facility, allowing controllers from two or
more power supplies to be tied together for simultaneous
fire alarm sequencing.
Models are UL Listed in the US and Canada, CE, FCC and
Industry Canada compliance registered. See page 4 for a
full breakdown of agency listings and registrations.

DynaLock 5850 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the DynaLock 5850 power supply run both 12V and 24V maglocks, or do I have to pick one?
One voltage per unit. The 5850 is a selectable 12VDC or 24VDC supply, and the selection sets the output for the whole board, so all four zones run at whatever you select. If you have a mix of 12V and 24V locks on a site, you need a separate supply per voltage. Total output is 3 amps continuous at either setting.
2) How many maglocks can I run off a DynaLock 5850?
Four zones, with each fused Class 2 output individually rated at 2 amps, but the supply as a whole is 3 amps continuous. That 3 amp overall ceiling is the number that governs your design, not 4 x 2A. Add up the holding current of every lock you plan to attach and keep the total under 3 amps at your selected voltage, leaving room for the 1.5 amp maximum battery charging current if you are fitting standby batteries.
3) Does the DynaLock 5850 drop the locks on a fire alarm signal?
That is what the 5850 adds over the plain 5800. It has a supervised fire alarm interface plus access control trigger inputs, with selectable latching and a reset input, so an alarm signal releases the zones and you choose whether they stay released until reset. There is also a cascade facility, so controllers from two or more supplies tie together and sequence on the same alarm signal across a building.
4) What is the difference between the DynaLock 5800 and the 5850 power supply?
Both are 12/24VDC, 3 amp continuous power supply/chargers in the same hinged locking steel enclosure with the same battery charger. The 5850 is the one with the 4-zone distribution controller: individually fused 2 amp lock outputs, access control inputs per zone, selectable fail-safe, fail-secure or isolated dry contact operating modes, and the supervised fire alarm interface. If you are feeding one lock or already have separate relay logic, the 5800 is the simpler box. If the supply itself has to distribute and release the openings, take the 5850.
5) Can I use the DynaLock 5850 with fail-secure electric strikes as well as fail-safe maglocks?
Yes. Each of the four zones is switchable between fail-safe power, fail-secure power, or an isolated dry contact signal, so you can mix a fail-safe maglock on one zone with a fail-secure strike on another off the same supply. The dry contact mode is there when you want the zone to signal another device rather than power a lock.
6) Does the DynaLock 5850 come with a plug-in power cord or does it have to be hardwired?
Both are available. The line cord is an ordering option: a six foot grounded cord with a NEMA 5-15P plug end, or no cord if the AHJ or the job requires the supply hardwired to a dedicated circuit. Input is 120-240 VAC, 50-60Hz at 1.4 amps maximum either way.
7) Can the DynaLock 5850 enclosure be monitored for tamper?
Tamper switches are an order option in two levels: a single switch monitoring the enclosure lid, or dual switches monitoring both the lid and the enclosure bottom for wall pull-off. The bottom switch is the one that matters if the cabinet is in a public corridor or an unsecured electrical room rather than behind a locked door. The lid is key locked and ships with two keys regardless.
8) Is the DynaLock 5850 UL Listed for access control power?
UL Listed in both the US and Canada, and registered for CE, FCC and Industry Canada compliance. That listing is what a specifier or inspector normally wants to see on a supply feeding locking hardware on an egress door.
9) I need to release more than four doors at once on a fire alarm. Can I tie two DynaLock 5850 supplies together?
Yes, that is what the cascade facility is for. Controllers from two or more 5850 power supplies tie together so a single fire alarm input sequences all of them simultaneously. You run one alarm connection to the first controller and cascade to the rest instead of pulling a separate supervised alarm circuit to every cabinet, which is the normal way to cover a stair tower or a full floor of openings.
