DynaLock 5900 and 5950 Power Supply/Chargers supply a
regulated 12 VDC or 24VDC at 6 Amps nominal continuous
current. They’re housed in hinged, locking steel enclosures
capable of accommodating one or two optional 12AH lead
acid rechargeable standby batteries.
Model 5950 includes a 8-zone power distribution
controlller featuring fused Class 2 outputs individually
rated a 2A each, with selectable fail-safe, fail-secure
power, or isolated dry contact signal operating modes,
supervised access control and fire alarm trigger inputs,
and a cascade facility, allowing controllers from two or
more power supplies to be tied together for simultaneous
fire alarm sequencing.
Models are UL Listed in the US and Canada, CE, FCC and

1) How many mag locks or electric strikes can a DynaLock 5950 power supply run?
The 5950 puts out 6 amps continuous at 12 or 24VDC, split across eight fused Class 2 zone outputs rated 2 amps each. So the ceiling is total load, not zone count: eight doors is the wiring capacity, but the sum of all locks has to stay inside 6 amps. Typical mag lock draw is well under an amp, so eight openings is realistic; high-draw devices will run you out of headroom before you run out of zones.
2) What is the difference between the DynaLock 5900 and the 5950 power supply?
Both are 6 amp 12/24VDC supply/chargers in the same steel enclosure. The 5950 adds the 8-zone distribution controller: individually fused 2 amp lock outputs, access control inputs, and a supervised fire alarm interface with selectable latching and a reset input. If you only need one regulated DC feed and will distribute it yourself, the 5900 is the plain supply. If you need per-door outputs and a fire alarm drop, that is the 5950.
3) Will the DynaLock 5950 drop my mag locks on a fire alarm signal?
That is what the supervised fire alarm interface is for. The trigger input drops the zone outputs on alarm, and it is selectable latching, so you can make the locks stay released until someone hits the reset input rather than re-securing the moment the alarm clears. The interface is supervised, so a cut or shorted trigger line is detected instead of silently failing.
4) Can I tie two DynaLock 5950 power supplies together so all doors release on one fire alarm input?
Yes. The 5950 controller has a cascade facility that ties the controllers from two or more power supplies together for simultaneous fire alarm sequencing. On a building that needs more than eight zones or more than 6 amps, you land a second supply and cascade it rather than trying to run everything from one cabinet, and the fire alarm trigger still releases every door at once.
5) Can one DynaLock 5950 run fail-safe mag locks and fail-secure electric strikes on the same job?
It can. Each of the eight zones is independently selectable for fail-safe power, fail-secure power, or an isolated dry contact signal output. So a mag lock on an egress door and a fail-secure strike on a storeroom door can share the same cabinet, each set to its own mode, and the dry contact mode lets a zone signal a device that has its own power instead of feeding it.
6) Does the DynaLock 5950 come with the standby batteries or do I order them separately?
Batteries are an ordering choice. You can take it with no battery back-up, with one 12AH battery for 12VDC standby, or with two 12AH batteries for 24VDC standby. Battery leads are included either way, and the enclosure holds one or two 12AH sealed lead acid batteries. Match the battery option to the output voltage you are running: two batteries in series is what gets you 24 volts of standby.
7) Is the DynaLock 5950 UL Listed for access control power?
The 5950 is UL Listed in the US and Canada, and is CE, FCC and Industry Canada compliance registered. The zone outputs are Class 2. For an institutional spec that calls out listed power for electrified locking, that is the set of listings the model carries.
8) Can I run 12 volt and 24 volt locks off the same DynaLock 5950?
No. Output voltage is selectable at 12VDC or 24VDC for the whole supply, not per zone, so every one of the eight zones runs at whichever you set. Mixing 12V and 24V hardware on one opening group means a second supply, or picking hardware that runs on the one voltage you chose. Set the voltage before you energize anything: 24 volts into a 12 volt mag lock is a dead lock.
9) Does the DynaLock 5950 need to be hardwired or can I plug it in?
Either. Input is 120-240 VAC, 50-60Hz at 1.4 amps maximum, so it takes standard line voltage and works on 230V service too. A six foot grounded line cord with a NEMA 5-15P plug end is an option you select at order time; skip it and you are hardwiring to a junction box. On a job where an inspector wants the supply on a dedicated circuit, take it without the cord.
10) Can I get tamper monitoring on the DynaLock 5950 enclosure?
Two tamper choices are offered beyond none: a single switch that monitors the enclosure lid, or dual switches that monitor both the lid and the enclosure bottom for wall pull-off. If the supply sits in a public corridor or a tenant space rather than a locked IT room, take the dual switches. The lid is key-locked regardless.
11) Does a mag lock draw more current at startup than the DynaLock 5950 can supply?
In-rush is covered. The supply handles 20 amps for up to 100 ms at nominal 12/24VDC, which is what absorbs the surge when a bank of locks re-energizes together after a fire alarm reset or a power restore. Steady state is still the 6 amp continuous figure, so size your load against that number, not the in-rush.
12) Do I need a separate access control panel to use the DynaLock 5950?
The 5950 is not a card reader or a credential system. It has access control inputs on each of the eight zones, meaning your reader controller, REX, or keypad relay drops a contact into the zone and the 5950 does the switching and the power. So you still bring an access control head end, but you do not need separate relay boards or per-door power modules between it and the locks.
