Model 5900 Power Supply/Charger, Selectable 12/24VDC Output at 6A Continuous

DynaLock 5900 and 5950 Power Supply/Chargers supply a
regulated 12 VDC or 24VDC at 6 Amps nominal continuous
current. They’re housed in hinged, locking steel enclosures
capable of accommodating one or two optional 12AH lead
acid rechargeable standby batteries.
Model 5950 includes a 8-zone power distribution
controlller featuring fused Class 2 outputs individually
rated a 2A each, with selectable fail-safe, fail-secure
power, or isolated dry contact signal operating modes,
supervised access control and fire alarm trigger inputs,
and a cascade facility, allowing controllers from two or
more power supplies to be tied together for simultaneous
fire alarm sequencing.

1) Will the DynaLock 5900 power supply run both 12VDC and 24VDC maglocks, or do I have to pick one?
The 5900 is field selectable for either 12VDC or 24VDC, but it's one setting for the whole unit, so every lock fed from it runs at the same voltage. Output is a regulated 6 amps continuous at whichever you select. If you have a mix of 12V and 24V devices on the same opening group, you need a second supply for the other voltage.
2) How many maglocks can I run off a DynaLock 5900?
Budget against 6 amps continuous total. Add the holding current of every lock and any strikes on the supply and stay inside that number, remembering the in-rush allowance is separate: the 5900 handles 20 amps for up to 100 ms at nominal 12/24VDC, which covers the momentary hit when locks re-energize together. The 5900 itself is a straight power supply and charger with no zone breakout, so all loads land on one output bus.
3) What is the difference between the DynaLock 5900 and the 5950?
Same power section, different job. Both give a regulated 12 or 24VDC at 6 amps nominal continuous in a hinged locking steel enclosure. The 5950 adds an 8-zone power distribution controller with fused Class 2 outputs rated 2 amps each, selectable fail-safe, fail-secure or isolated dry contact modes per zone, supervised access control and fire alarm trigger inputs, and a cascade facility that ties controllers from two or more supplies together for simultaneous fire alarm sequencing. Choose the 5900 when a panel or relay board already handles distribution and release logic and you only need clean power plus battery standby. Choose the 5950 when you need the fire alarm release and zone control built into the same can.
4) Do I get battery backup with the DynaLock 5900, or do I order it separately?
Battery standby is an ordering choice on the 5900, not standard. You can take it with no batteries, with one 12AH battery at 12VDC, or with two 12AH batteries for 24VDC standby. Twenty-four volt operation needs the pair, because two 12AH batteries are series connected to reach 24 volts. Battery leads are included either way, and the charger is built in and temperature compensated at 1.5 amps maximum charging current.
5) Will a DynaLock 5900 work as a replacement for a failed access control power supply feeding my maglocks?
It substitutes cleanly where the existing unit is a straight 12 or 24VDC supply with battery charging, since the 5900 delivers regulated 6 amps continuous at either voltage and includes the temperature compensated charger and battery leads. What it does not bring over is zoned distribution or fire alarm release logic. If the unit you are replacing had fused per-door outputs and a fire alarm input driving the locks, the 5950 with its 8-zone controller is the direct replacement, not the 5900.
6) Does the DynaLock 5900 need to be hardwired, or can it plug into a wall outlet?
Both are available. The 5900 can be ordered with a six foot grounded line cord terminated in a NEMA 5-15P plug, which drops it onto a standard 120V receptacle, or without the cord for a hardwired connection to a dedicated circuit. Input accepts 120-240 VAC, 50-60Hz at 1.4 amps maximum either way. If your inspector or the access control spec calls for a dedicated hardwired circuit, order it without the cord.
7) Can I get tamper monitoring on the DynaLock 5900 enclosure?
Two tamper choices beyond none. A single tamper switch monitors the enclosure lid. The dual option monitors the lid plus enclosure bottom tamper, which catches the cabinet being pulled off the wall as well as being opened. Pick the dual set where the spec calls for wall tamper on access control power, and run the contacts back to your panel as a supervised zone. The lid is key locked regardless of which switch option you choose.
8) Can the DynaLock 5900 be mounted in an unheated garage or a mechanical penthouse?
Operating range on the 5900 is 32F to 120F (0C to 49C). An unheated space that drops below freezing in winter or a hot roof penthouse pushing past 120F is outside that range, and lead acid standby batteries lose capacity at the cold end regardless. Conditioned electrical or telecom rooms are where this belongs.
9) Is the DynaLock 5900 rated for commercial installations or just light duty?
This is commercial grade access control power, sold for electromagnetic lock and electrified hardware installations rather than residential use. Line powered rather than battery operated, in a hinged locking steel enclosure with door mounted status LEDs, so it lives in a building electrical room and gets serviced by a technician.
