The 6170 Series Weatherproof Pushbutton features a commercial-grade switch assembly, completely sealed against moisture and dust intrusion. It is specifically designed to withstand outdoor exposure to the elements and other harsh environments. The standard 3/4” diameter white, raised dome pushbutton includes a green LED backlight, selectable for 12 or 24VDC operation. Momentary-action, SPDT double break contacts are standard on all models. 1) Can the DynaLock 6173 pushbutton be mounted outdoors on a gate or exterior door?
Yes. The 6173 is built for exposed outdoor use. The button assembly is sealed and rated IP68 water-tight for immersion up to 1 meter, plus IP64 for splashing water and dust ingress, with an operating range of -67F to +185F. A weatherproof faceplate gasket comes with it. For surface mounting where there is no recessed box, order the BBX weatherproof surface back box option.
2) What kind of electrical box does the DynaLock 6173 exit button mount to?
It mounts on a standard single-gang box. If you are surface mounting on a gate post, block wall, or anywhere you cannot recess a box, add the weatherproof surface back box option (BBX), which is one of the choices when ordering.

The 6173 uses momentary-action SPDT double break (Form Z) contacts rated 3 A at 115VAC, so it can break both legs of a lock power feed on a release or request-to-exit call. The green LED backlight is field selectable for 12 or 24VDC, so it works on either common access control supply without a different part number.
4) Is the DynaLock 6173 momentary or maintained action?
Momentary only. Press and the contacts transfer, release and they return, which is what you want for a release or request-to-exit call to a maglock or strike. If the job calls for a button that latches in the pressed state, look at a maintained device instead, such as the RCI 908 Series electronic exit button with maintained operation or the RCI 919 Series rotary release with maintained operation.
5) Do I need a weatherproof pushbutton, or will a standard indoor exit button do?
If the button sits inside a conditioned corridor or lobby, a standard indoor device such as the Securitron PB3, the Securitron PB5 medium round illuminated button, or the Trine 342 narrow style switch will do the job. Go to the DynaLock 6173 when the button is exposed: outside doors, gates, garages, kitchens, wash-down areas, or anywhere it sees splashing, dust, or extreme cold and heat. It is sealed to IP68 for immersion up to 1 meter and rated from -67F to +185F, which indoor plates are not built for.
6) Does the DynaLock 6173 work as an ADA push plate actuator?
No. The 6173 is a 3/4 inch diameter raised dome pushbutton on a single gang plate, silkscreened EXIT/SALIDA, intended as a momentary release or request-to-exit control. For a large-target actuator carrying the handicap symbol, the RCI 950 Series round push plate with handicap symbol is a momentary switch in satin stainless steel.
