Outdoor use is what the 6170 Series is built for. The button assembly is sealed to IP68 water-tight (immersion up to 1 meter), IP64 moisture-proof against splashing from any direction, and IP64 dust-tight, with a thermoplastic button integrated into a fully sealed aluminum body. It operates from -67F to +185F, so freeze-thaw climates are covered. A weatherproof faceplate gasket ships with it. If there is no in-wall box at the gate post or exterior wall, order the BBX option to get the weatherproof surface back box, since all models otherwise mount on a single-gang box.
2) What box does the DynaLock 6175 weatherproof pushbutton mount to, and do I need to order a back box?
All 6170 Series models mount on a standard single-gang box. If you have an existing single-gang box in the wall, nothing more is needed. On a masonry wall, gate post, or anywhere surface-mounting is the only option, add the BBX weatherproof surface back box, which is one of the two choices you make when ordering the 6175. Faceplate mounting screws and tamper-resistant screws both come in the box, along with the weatherproof faceplate gasket.
3) Will the DynaLock 6175 pushbutton work on a 12V maglock circuit, or do I need the 24V version?
One part covers both. The green LED backlight in the 6175 is field selectable for 12 or 24VDC, so the same button drops into a 12VDC or 24VDC maglock or strike circuit without ordering a different model. The switch contacts themselves are rated 3 A at 115VAC, which is well above what a maglock control circuit draws.
4) Is the DynaLock 6175 a momentary or maintained pushbutton?
Momentary only. Every 6170 Series model, the 6175 included, is momentary-action with SPDT double break contacts (Form Z). Press it and the door releases for as long as the button is held, then the contacts return.
