Emtek 1171-US15 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Emtek 1171 multipoint trim include the multipoint lock body?
No. The 1171 Concord trim is a trim-only kit: interior and exterior brass plates, the lever style you pick, the keyed American cylinder, and the mounting hardware. The multipoint gearbox that drives the rods stays with the door and has to come from the door manufacturer or your installer. If your existing mechanism still works and you only want new handles and a fresh key, this is the right kit. If the mechanism itself has failed, replacing the trim will not fix it.
2) Will the Emtek 1171 Concord trim fit my Andersen or Marvin patio door?
The 1171 is cut for Door Configuration #1, and Emtek lists that configuration against Andersen, KML by Andersen, Marvin Integrity, Atrium, G-U, Paddock Lockmaster, and Superior doors. Configuration is not a brand promise though, it is a hole pattern: measure the spacing between the handle spindle hole and the cylinder hole on your door. It needs to be 3-5/8 inches (92 mm) with the cylinder hole below the handle. If your door reads differently, it is a different config and this plate will not line up.
3) My door has the key cylinder above the handle. Can I still use the 1171?
No, and this is the most common mis-order on multipoint trim. The 1171 Concord plate is drilled with the American cylinder hub below the handle. On a plate that measures 1-1/2 by 11 inches, the cylinder and spindle holes are fixed, so a cylinder-above door will not accept it, even if the 3-5/8 inch center-to-center matches. Look for the Emtek Concord trim built for a cylinder-above configuration instead.
4) What do I need to specify when ordering Emtek 1171 multipoint trim?
Five choices, and four of them are required. Handing (right or left, taken from outside the door), lever style from the brass range, keyway (Schlage is standard, Weiser WR5 is the alternative), keying (keyed different or keyed alike, with an optional key code if you are matching an existing system), and finish. Door thickness is the optional field, and you should fill it in anyway so the spindle and screws suit your slab.
5) Can Emtek multipoint trim be keyed to match my existing Schlage keys?
Yes, if your house is on a Schlage keyway. The 1171 ships with an American cylinder in Schlage keyway as standard, or Weiser WR5 if that is what your other doors use, and you can supply a key code at checkout to have it cut to your existing system. Ordering keyed alike across multiple locks gets them all on one key. Two keys ship per lock, and orders of three or more keyed alike ship six keys total.
6) Does handing matter on the Emtek 1171, and how do I work out mine?
Handing matters, and it is a required selection. Stand outside the door: if the hinges are on your right, it is right hand; hinges on the left, left hand. Get it wrong and the lever points the wrong way and the plate orientation is off. There is no field-reversible option here, so settle it before you order.
7) What is the difference between multipoint lock trim and a regular entry handleset?
A regular handleset carries its own latch and deadbolt in the door edge. Multipoint trim like the 1171 carries no latching hardware at all: the lever turns a spindle that drives a gearbox already in the door, throwing hooks or rollers at several points up and down the edge. That is why the plate is long and narrow, 1-1/2 by 11 inches, and why the lock body is not part of the kit. If your door has a single bore and a separate deadbolt, you want a handleset, not this.
8) What finishes does the Emtek Concord multipoint trim come in, and will they match my other Emtek hardware?
Eight: Oil Rubbed Bronze (US10B), Satin Nickel (US15), Pewter (US15A), Flat Black (US19), Polished Chrome (US26), Polished Brass Lifetime (US3), Unlacquered Brass (US3NL), and French Antique (US7). All eight are offered with either keyway. These are Emtek's standard brass-collection finish codes, so a US15 lever set elsewhere in the house will read the same as a US15 Concord plate. Unlacquered brass is the one to think about: it has no clear coat and will darken with handling, which is the point of it but not what you want if the rest of the house is staying bright.
9) Is the Emtek 1171 rated for a commercial entrance?
Emtek catalogues the 1171 Concord multipoint trim as residential hardware, and the multipoint doors it fits, Andersen, Marvin Integrity, Atrium and the like, are residential and light-commercial patio and entry doors. For a property manager doing unit entries or patio doors in multi-family, that is a fit. For a high-traffic storefront or an institutional opening, specify commercial-grade hardware instead.
10) Is the Emtek 1171 trim solid brass or plated?
Forged solid brass, plates and levers both, from Emtek's brass collection. Forged brass gives the plate its weight and it takes finish plating properly rather than flaking off a zinc casting. On an exterior patio or entry door that is the material difference that shows up in five years.
11) Is there an electronic or keypad version of the Emtek 1171 multipoint trim?
No. The 1171 is mechanical: a single-cylinder keyed American cylinder outside, thumbturn-free lever operation inside, no electronics, no power, nothing to fail when the batteries die. If you need keyless entry on a Config #1 multipoint door, that is a different Emtek trim, not this one.
12) Can I pick any Emtek lever for the 1171, or only certain ones?
The lever comes from Emtek's brass lever range, and it is a required pick, not an accessory bought separately. The list spans the L-Square, T-Bar and R-Bar bar levers in Faceted, Hammered, Knurled, Tribeca, Straight Knurled and White Marble treatments, the modern cast levers (Athena, Helios, Hermes, Luzern, Poseidon, Stuttgart, Argos, Aston, Basel, Breslin, Dumont, Freestone, Geneva, Hercules, Mercury, Myles, Sion, Spencer, Triton), and the traditional and transitional group (Cortina, Manning, Milano, Merrimack, Turino, Coventry, Elan, Ribbon and Reed, Rope, Rustic, Santa Fe, Wembley, Arts and Crafts, Hammered). Whatever you choose ships in the same finish as the plate.

Elegant and Secure Multi-Point Lock Trim

Posted by Ivan on Mar 24th 2024

Impressed with the sleek design and sturdy construction of this multi-point lock trim. The brass plates add a touch of class to my door. However, the keyed entry mechanism can be a bit finicky at times, requiring some patience. Overall, a stylish and reliable choice for enhancing home security.
