Emtek 11A1-US19 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Emtek 11A1 multi point trim include the lock body, or is it trim only?
Trim only. The 11A1 set gives you the plates, handles and cylinder; the multi point mortise lock box that runs the rods in the door edge is not part of it. If your door already has a working multi point gearbox from Andersen, Marvin Integrity, Atrium, G-U, KML by Andersen, Paddock Lockmaster or Superior, this is the dress-up set for it. If the gearbox itself is broken, that has to be sourced separately before this trim does you any good.
2) Will the Emtek 11A1 fit my existing multi point patio door prep?
Two things have to line up. The 11A1 is built for Door Configuration #1, and the plate is drilled at 3-5/8 inch center-to-center between the handle hub and the cylinder hub, with the cylinder hub sitting below the handle. Measure your existing trim hub-to-hub and check which hole is the key. If your door puts the cylinder above the handle, or the spacing is anything other than 3-5/8, this is the wrong config and you want a different Emtek trim set.
3) Can I key the Emtek 11A1 to match my existing house keys?
Yes, in either of the two common residential keyways. The cylinder ships in Schlage keyway as standard or Weiser (WR5) if that is what the rest of your doors run. Pick the keyway that matches your existing keys, and it can be ordered keyed alike to the other locks or keyed different. There is also a keying-to-code field on the order if your keyway and code are already established across the property.
4) Do I have to specify handing when ordering the Emtek 11A1?
Yes, and it is not optional. The 11A1 is ordered right hand or left hand. Stand outside the door: if the hinges are on your right it is right hand, hinges on the left is left hand. Get this wrong on a lever and the handle points the wrong way and the trim will not sit on the door correctly.
5) What does single cylinder mean on an Emtek multi point trim, and is there a key on the inside?
Single cylinder means keyed from the outside only. The 11A1 takes an American cylinder in the hub below the exterior handle; the interior side operates by hand with no key. For a patio or entry door with glass beside it, that is the usual choice, and some jurisdictions require it for egress. If you specifically want a key on both faces, this is not the function to order.
6) Which levers can I put on the Emtek 11A1 trim set?
Any lever in Emtek's brass line, and that is a long list: the L-Square, T-Bar and R-Bar contemporary bars in Faceted, Hammered, Knurled, Tribeca, Straight Knurled and White Marble; the Athena, Helios, Hermes, Luzern, Poseidon and Stuttgart; Argos, Aston, Basel, Breslin, Dumont, Freestone, Geneva, Hercules, Mercury, Myles, Sion, Spencer and Triton; plus Cortina, Manning, Milano, Merrimack, Turino, Coventry, Elan, Ribbon and Reed, Rope, Rustic, Santa Fe, Wembley, Arts and Crafts and Hammered. The lever is a required choice on the order, so decide it up front rather than assuming a default ships.
7) What finishes does the Emtek 11A1 come in, and do they match other Emtek hardware in the house?
Seven finishes across the brass line: Oil Rubbed Bronze (US10B), Polished Nickel Lifetime (US14), Satin Nickel (US15), Flat Black (US19), Polished Chrome (US26), Unlacquered Brass (US3NL) and Satin Brass (US4). All seven are available in both the Schlage and Weiser keyways, so the keyway decision does not narrow your finish choice. Because these are standard Emtek brass finishes, they run with the rest of an Emtek brass suite on the interior doors. Note that Unlacquered Brass is a living finish and will darken with handling.
8) My patio door lever sags. Does the Emtek 11A1 fix that?
It addresses it directly. The 11A1 trim carries a spring assist that returns the lever to horizontal after each use, which is what stops the droop you get on multi point doors where the gearbox alone is carrying the lever. On a fleet of units where sagging handles are a recurring call, that is the feature worth noting.
9) Do I need to give my door thickness when ordering Emtek multi point trim?
Provide it if your door is not a standard thickness. There is a door thickness field on the 11A1 order because the spindle and cylinder tailpiece have to span the door, and multi point patio doors vary more than a typical interior slab. Measure the slab edge and enter the actual figure; if you leave it blank the set is built to Emtek's standard components.
10) Is the Emtek 11A1 suitable for a commercial building entrance?
It is a residential multi point trim, brass, built for swinging patio and entry doors on residential multi point systems. For an apartment or condo unit door served by one of the listed multi point systems it is in scope. For a commercial storefront or a rated opening in a commercial building, a residential multi point trim is not the right category of hardware.
11) Is the Emtek 11A1 an electronic or smart lock?
No. The 11A1 is fully mechanical trim, keyed with an American cylinder below the handle. There is no keypad, no motor and no power connection to run. If you want code entry on a multi point patio door, this is not the product line to be shopping.
