Emtek 11B1-US19 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the handle center-to-center spacing on the Emtek 11B1 multi point trim?
3-5/8 inches center to center, which is what Door Configuration #1 means on Emtek multi point trim. That spacing is the distance between the handle hub and the cylinder hub, and it has to match the gearbox already in your door. If your existing gear measures something other than 3-5/8 inches, the 11B1 plates will not line up and you need the Emtek configuration that matches your gearbox instead.
2) Which patio door brands does the Emtek 11B1 multi point trim fit?
Emtek references this trim against Atrium, G-U, KML by Andersen, Andersen, Marvin Integrity, Paddock Lockmaster, and Superior doors. Fit hangs on the gearbox, not the brand badge, so confirm your door's handle-to-cylinder spacing is 3-5/8 inches with the cylinder hub below the handle before ordering. Same brand with different gear means a different configuration.
3) Is the cylinder above or below the handle on the Emtek 11B1?
Below the handle. That is the single detail that separates the 11B1 from the otherwise identical trim with the hub above the handle, and it is not reversible in the field. Look at the door you are replacing: if the key sits above the lever, this is the wrong part number.
4) Do I have to specify handing when ordering Emtek multi point lock trim?
Yes, handing is a required choice, right hand or left hand, and there is no ambidextrous version. Stand outside the door: if the hinges are on your right it is right hand. Get it wrong and the lever and cylinder orientation will not suit the door. You also pick the lever style and the keyway at the same time.
5) Can I key the Emtek 11B1 patio door trim to my existing Schlage or Kwikset house keys?
The 11B1 comes with an American cylinder in either the Schlage keyway (standard) or the Weiser WR5 keyway, and it is single cylinder, so key outside and thumbturn or inside handle operation. Pick the keyway that matches the rest of the house and it can be keyed alike with the other openings, or keyed to a code you supply. Weiser WR5 is the Kwikset-family choice; Schlage C is the other.
6) Which levers can I use with Emtek 11B1 multi point trim?
Any Emtek brass lever, and the lever is a required selection when you order. The list runs from the contemporary L-Square, T-Bar and R-Bar bars in Faceted, Hammered, Knurled, Tribeca, Straight Knurled and White Marble, through Athena, Helios, Hermes, Luzern, Poseidon, Stuttgart, Argos, Aston, Basel, Breslin, Dumont, Freestone, Geneva, Hercules, Mercury, Myles, Sion, Spencer and Triton, to the traditional Cortina, Manning, Milano, Merrimack, Turino, Coventry, Elan, Ribbon and Reed, Rope, Rustic, Santa Fe, Wembley, Arts and Crafts and Hammered. That means you can match the patio door to the lever already on the interior doors.
7) Do Emtek multi point handles sag over time?
The 11B1 trim carries Emtek's Spring Assist, which returns the lever to horizontal after each use. That is the mechanism that stops the drooping lever you see on older multi point patio doors, where the gearbox spring alone is carrying the weight of a long lever. Worth knowing if you are replacing sagging trim rather than doing a new install, because that is usually the reason.
8) Is the Emtek 11B1 trim rated for commercial door traffic?
Emtek classifies this as residential hardware. It suits a home, a condo unit, or an apartment patio slider replacement. For a high traffic commercial opening or a school or hospital corridor, look at Grade 1 commercial trim instead, not this.
9) I'm replacing a single Emtek patio handle in a building where the rest match. Will the 11B1 match?
If the other doors have the Modern 2 x 10 inch brass plate, Configuration #1 with the cylinder below the handle, then yes, and you can order it in the same finish and the same lever to match exactly. Keyed alike is available too, so a maintenance key can carry across the units. The two things to verify on the door you are replacing are the 3-5/8 inch center-to-center spacing and the cylinder position, because the surrounding hardware is only cosmetic if those two do not match.
10) What finishes does the Emtek 11B1 brass multi point trim come in?
Seven, all on solid brass plates: Oil Rubbed Bronze (US10B), Polished Nickel Lifetime (US14), Satin Nickel (US15), Flat Black (US19), Polished Chrome (US26), Unlacquered Brass (US3NL), and Satin Brass (US4). Every one of those is offered in both the Schlage and Weiser WR5 keyway. Unlacquered brass is the one that will patina, so choose it deliberately if you want the living finish rather than a stable one.

Emtek 11B1
Quality product. Matched the replacement in style and color. Delivery was delayed but not too long. Communicating the delay and expectation was good. The only issue I had was they sent a left handed lever when I ordered a right hand set. I was able to take it apart and reverse the handles but it added time for my installation and luckily I had all the tools in my truck to do so.
