Emtek 1571-US15 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Emtek 1571 multi point trim include the multi point lock body, or do I need to order that separately?
Trim only. The 1571 set includes the plates, the handles, and the euro profile cylinder, but the multi point mortise lock box is not part of it. If your door does not already have a working multi point gearbox in the stile, you need to source that separately before this trim does anything. It is the plate-and-handle package that dresses an existing multi point lock, not the lock itself.
2) How do I know if my patio door takes an Emtek Door Configuration #5 trim, with the cylinder below the handle?
Configuration #5 means the keyed euro cylinder hub sits BELOW the lever, on 3-5/8 inch center-to-center spacing between the handle hub and the cylinder hub. Measure your existing trim or the two holes in the door stile: if the cylinder cutout is above the lever, or the spacing is anything other than 3-5/8 inches, this is the wrong configuration and you need a different Emtek config number. The prep on the door decides it, not the door brand.
3) Will Emtek multi point trim fit a Therma-Tru or Kolbe swinging patio door?
Emtek lists the 1571 trim against multi point systems from Crestline, Hoppe, Hurd, KFV, Kolbe & Kolbe, Lincoln, Loewen, Paddock Lockmaster, Peachtree, Semco, Sierra, Oknoplast, Pacific, Signature, Simpson, Therma-Tru, Vetter, Willmar, Windsor and Weathershield. Those are reference door manufacturers, so the deciding factor is still the prep: config #5 with the cylinder below the lever and 3-5/8 inch hub spacing. Confirm the hole pattern in the stile matches before you commit.
4) What do I have to specify when ordering Emtek 1571 Concord trim?
Four choices are required on the order: lever style (51 options, from L-Square Faceted through Hammered), finish, handing (right or left), and keying (keyed different or keyed alike, with an optional key code field). Door thickness is an optional entry. Handing is not reversible on the bench here, so get the swing right at the order stage: stand outside the door, if the hinges are on your right it is right hand.
5) Is the Emtek 1571 a single cylinder lock, and does it take a standard euro profile cylinder?
Single cylinder function: key on the outside, thumbturn or lever operation inside. The cylinder supplied is a euro profile, which is the format nearly every European-style multi point gearbox is prepped for. That matters if you are keying a house together, because a euro cylinder will not key alike to a standard KW1 or SC1 rim or mortise cylinder on your other doors unless those are euro profile too.
6) Can I get several Emtek multi point patio doors keyed alike to each other?
Yes. Keyed alike is one of the two keying selections at no extra cost, and there is a key-to-code field if you need the cylinders cut to an existing code so they work on keys you already carry. For a property manager running matching doors across a building, order the whole run keyed alike in the same pass rather than trying to rekey euro cylinders later.
7) How big are the plates on the Emtek Concord multi point trim, and will they cover my old trim's holes?
The Concord plate measures 1-1/2 x 11 inches. That is a narrow escutcheon, so it covers the hub and cylinder holes and little else. If you are pulling off a wider plate, any screw holes or finish shadow outside that 1-1/2 inch width will show. Check the width of what is on the door now before assuming this hides it.
8) Is Emtek 1571 multi point trim suitable for a commercial building entrance?
Emtek classifies the 1571 as residential hardware, and it is solid brass swinging patio door trim built for a home entry. For a commercial opening carrying real traffic, or one on a fire-rated or egress path, this is not the product line to specify. An institutional buyer standardizing a facility should be looking at commercial grade mortise or cylindrical locksets instead.
9) Do Emtek multi point levers sag over time?
Each 1571 trim set ships with the Spring Assist function built in, which returns the lever to horizontal and is there specifically to stop the droop that shows up on heavy solid levers after a few years of use. Worth knowing if you are replacing an older Emtek multi point trim that developed exactly that problem.
10) What finishes does the Emtek 1571 Concord trim come in, and which hold up outdoors?
Eight finishes: Oil Rubbed Bronze (US10B), Satin Nickel (US15), Pewter (US15A), Flat Black (US19), Polished Chrome (US26), Polished Brass Lifetime (US3), Unlacquered Brass (US3NL), and French Antique (US7). Two of those are living finishes by design. Oil Rubbed Bronze and Unlacquered Brass will patina and darken with handling and weather, which is the intent, not a defect. If you want the exterior side to look the same in five years as it does on day one, Satin Nickel or Polished Chrome are the stable choices.
11) Can I mix and match any Emtek lever with the 1571 Concord trim plates?
Any Emtek brass lever works with it, and there are 51 to pick from across the L-Square, T-Bar and R-Bar bar series (Faceted, Hammered, Knurled, Tribeca, Straight Knurled, White Marble) plus the named levers such as Athena, Geneva, Milano, Coventry, Rope and Arts & Crafts. The plate collection is brass, so the lever selection is brass to match. Pick the same lever you are running on the interior passage doors and the patio door reads as part of the set.
12) Is the Emtek 1571 an electronic or smart lock?
Mechanical only. The 1571 is key and lever operated with a euro profile cylinder, with no motor, keypad, or wiring. If you want a smart multi point patio door, this trim will not accept a credential reader, and you would need to look at an electrified multi point solution instead.
