Emtek 15A1-US19 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Emtek 15A1 multipoint trim include the multipoint lock, or is it handles only?
Trim only. The Emtek 15A1 ships as interior and exterior plates with levers, plus the Euro profile cylinder since it is a keyed function, and the mounting hardware to attach it. The multipoint gearbox, the rods, and the strikes stay in the door. Buy it when the mechanism in your patio or entry door still works and you want new handles, or when the original manufacturer's trim is broken or discontinued. If the gearbox itself has failed, replacing the trim will not fix it.
2) How do I know my multipoint door takes Emtek Door Configuration 5 trim?
Measure the existing plate before ordering. Configuration 5 has the keyway below the lever, uses a Euro profile cylinder, and runs 3-5/8 inches center to center from the lever spindle to the cylinder. The two mounting screw holes sit 8-1/2 inches apart, and the cylinder sits 1-13/16 inches from the mounting hole. If your keyway is above the lever, or those numbers do not match, you are on a different Emtek door configuration and the 15A1 will not line up with the gearbox prep.
3) Can I use Emtek 15A1 trim on a Therma-Tru or Simpson multipoint door?
Both are on Emtek's reference list for this trim, along with Crestline, Hoppe, Hurd, KFV, Kolbe & Kolbe, Lincoln, Loewen, Paddock Lockmaster, Peachtree, Semco, Sierra, Oknoplast, Pacific, Signature, Vetter, Willmar, Windsor and Weathershield. Those brands ship doors with more than one gearbox layout, though, so the brand name alone does not settle it. Check that your door has the Euro cylinder below the lever at 3-5/8 inches center to center. That is the Configuration 5 pattern this trim is drilled for.
4) Is Emtek multipoint lock trim handed, and how do I tell if I need right hand or left hand?
Handing matters, and it has to be specified. The 15A1 is built as right hand or left hand, so it cannot be flipped in the field the way a simple passage set can. Stand outside the door, on the side with the keyway. If the hinges are on your right, it is right hand; hinges on your left, left hand. Ordering the wrong hand puts the lever throw and the cylinder on the wrong side of the plate.
5) Does the Emtek 15A1 come with a cylinder, and is it keyed on both sides?
A Euro profile cylinder comes with it, because the 15A1 is the keyed entry version of this trim. It is single cylinder: one keyway, on the outside, below the lever. There is no keyway on the interior plate. Two keys ship with each lock. If you want a keyway on the inside face as well, single cylinder is the wrong function and you need a different configuration of the trim.
6) Can I get several Emtek multipoint trim sets keyed alike so one key runs all the doors?
Yes, and keying to code is a free option entered at order time. Give the code or state that the sets should match each other. Each lock normally ships with two keys; order three or more keyed alike and six keys ship for the group. Worth doing in one order if you are doing a whole house or a run of units, since matching cylinders later means rekeying rather than specifying it up front.
7) Do I pick the lever separately on the Emtek 15A1, and does the same lever go on both sides?
The lever is a required choice and both levers are included, interior and exterior. There are 51 styles to pick from across the modern and traditional ranges, including the L-Square, T-Bar and R-Bar families in Faceted, Hammered, Knurled, Tribeca, Straight Knurled and White Marble, plus named levers such as Athena, Helios, Poseidon, Geneva, Milano, Rope, Santa Fe and Arts and Crafts. The plate style stays Modern regardless of which lever you choose, so the lever is where the door's look is decided.
8) How much stile does Emtek Modern multipoint trim need on a narrow patio door?
The plate measures 1-1/2 inches wide by 11 inches tall, so the door needs at least an inch and a half of flat stile face, clear of any glass stop or bead, over an 11 inch run. That narrow profile is what makes the Modern plate work on glass patio and French doors where a wide escutcheon would run into the glazing. Measure the flat width of your stile, not the overall rail, before ordering.
9) What finishes does Emtek 15A1 Modern multipoint trim come in?
Seven: Oil Rubbed Bronze (US10B), Polished Nickel Lifetime (US14), Satin Nickel (US15), Flat Black (US19), Polished Chrome (US26), Unlacquered Brass (US3NL) and Satin Brass (US4). Those are Emtek's standard finish codes, so the trim can be matched to Emtek interior levers, knobs and cabinet hardware elsewhere in the house by code rather than by eye. Unlacquered Brass is the one that will patina, since it has no protective coating over the raw brass.
10) Is Emtek 15A1 multipoint trim rated for commercial use?
It is a residential product. Forged brass plates and levers hold up fine on a house, a condo or the entry of a multi-family unit, but for a commercial opening carrying institutional traffic and a hardware schedule, specify commercial-duty hardware instead. Where it does earn its place on a managed property is on residential patio and entry doors that already run a multipoint gearbox, since it lets you standardize the handles and the keying across those doors.
11) Is there a keypad or smart lock version of the Emtek 15A1 multipoint trim?
No. The 15A1 is mechanical, keyed with a Euro profile cylinder and no electronics in the plate. If you want electronic access on a multipoint door, an electronic trim set is a different product and it has to be matched to the same gearbox configuration, so start from your door configuration rather than from this trim.
