Emtek 1261-FB – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Emtek 1261 multi point trim include the multi point lock body, or is it just the handles and plates?
Trim only. The 1261 set gives you the interior and exterior plates, the handles, and the cylinder. The multi point mortise lock box is not included, so you either reuse the lock body already in the door or source it separately. That is the normal way these are bought: the door manufacturer's multi point mechanism stays in the stile and only the visible trim gets replaced.
2) Will Emtek 1261 trim fit my Andersen or BiltBest multi point patio door?
The 1261 is referenced to BiltBest, G-U, Hurd (Energy Saver), and Andersen multi point doors, in the Door Configuration #2 hole pattern with 3-5/8 inch center-to-center spacing between the handle hub and the cylinder. Match your existing door prep to those two numbers before ordering: config number and CTC are what decide whether the plate lands on the existing holes. Cylinder sits above the handle on this one.
3) What does Door Configuration #2 mean on Emtek multi point trim, and how do I know it's the one I need?
Configuration refers to the layout of the door's existing prep: where the cylinder falls relative to the lever hub, and the spacing between them. Config #2 on the Emtek 1261 puts the American cylinder above the handle at 3-5/8 inch center-to-center. If your existing patio door has the key below the lever, or the spacing measures out differently, this is the wrong configuration and you need the Emtek trim built for that layout instead. Measure hub center to cylinder center on the door before you order.
4) Can I key Emtek 1261 patio door trim to match my Schlage or Kwikset house keys?
Yes, on the keyway side. The 1261 ships with an American cylinder in either the Schlage keyway (the standard option) or the Weiser WR5 keyway, which is the Kwikset-family keyway. Pick the one that matches the rest of the house and a locksmith can key it into the existing system. It is a single cylinder function, so key outside, thumbturn or interior operation inside, no key required to get out.
5) Do I have to specify handing when ordering Emtek 1261 multi point trim?
Handing is required, right hand or left hand, and it is not field reversible on the order form. Determine it from outside the door: standing on the exterior, if the hinges are on your right it is right hand. Get this wrong and the lever pitches the wrong way relative to the cylinder above it. You also have to pick a lever style at the same time, and door thickness can be entered if your door is not a standard slab.
6) Will Emtek 1261 trim cover the holes left by the old patio door handle set?
The plates measure 2 x 10 inches in a rectangular sandcast bronze profile. On a config #2 prep with 3-5/8 inch hub to cylinder spacing that plate spans both openings with material around them. What it will not do is hide a prep it was not built for, a wider spacing or a cylinder below the handle leaves holes exposed. Measure the existing prep against those two figures rather than assuming a 10 inch plate swallows everything.
7) Are the Emtek 1261 handles going to sag over time like the old ones did?
Spring assist is built into the trim. Each Emtek multi point lock trim now includes a spring assist that returns the lever to neutral, which is what stops the drooping handle that older multi point trim is known for. Worth knowing if you are replacing a set specifically because the lever dropped.
8) Is Emtek 1261 multi point trim rated for a commercial entrance or an apartment building common door?
Residential. The 1261 is sandcast bronze swinging patio door trim, built for hinged patio and French doors in homes. For a commercial opening or a high-traffic common-area door, this is not the part, you want commercial-graded entrance hardware instead. Property managers replacing trim on individual unit patio doors are on the right product; the same manager specifying a building entry is not.
9) Can I standardize all my patio doors on Emtek 1261 trim if they came from different manufacturers?
Only where the prep matches. The 1261 covers config #2 doors at 3-5/8 inch center-to-center from BiltBest, G-U, Hurd Energy Saver, and Andersen. Doors from those makers with a different configuration, or from a maker outside that group, need trim built for their prep even though the finish and lever can be kept identical across the property. So you can standardize the look across mixed doors, but you cannot assume one part number covers them all.
10) What finishes does the Emtek 1261 sandcast bronze multi point trim come in?
Three sandcast bronze finishes: Flat Black Bronze (FB), Medium Bronze (MB), and Tumbled White Bronze (TWB). All three are available in either keyway, so a Weiser WR5 cylinder in Tumbled White Bronze is a real combination. Because these are sandcast, there is natural variation in surface texture between castings, which is the look, not a defect.
11) Is the Emtek 1261 an electronic or smart lock?
Purely mechanical. The 1261 is keyed trim with an American cylinder above the handle, no electronics, no motor, no wiring in the door. If you want keypad or connected entry on a multi point patio door, this trim is not convertible to it, that is a different product line.
