1) Does the Emtek 1761 multi point trim include the multi point lock body?
No. The 1761 is trim only: plates, handles, and the cylinder. The multi point mortise lock box has to be ordered separately, so if you are replacing a whole gear set you need the lock body from the door manufacturer as well. What you get here is the visible hardware that mounts to a lock already in the door, or the finish set that goes with a lock box bought alongside it.
2) What does Door Configuration #7 mean on Emtek multi point trim, and how do I know my door takes it?
Emtek codes multi point trim by the hole pattern the door is prepped with, and the 1761 is Configuration #7: a keyed American cylinder with the cylinder hub ABOVE the handle, on a 6 inch center-to-center spacing between cylinder and spindle. Measure your existing prep. If the cylinder hole sits below the handle, or the spacing is not 6 inches, a different configuration number applies. Emtek references Trillenium (formerly W&F Manufacturing) doors for this trim.
3) Can I key this Emtek patio door trim to match my existing Schlage or Weiser house keys?
Yes, within those two keyways. The 1761 cylinder is ordered in either the Schlage keyway (the standard option) or the Weiser WR5 keyway, and keying is specified on the order as keyed different or keyed alike, with an option to key to an existing code. If your house is on Schlage SC1 or Weiser WR5, this patio door can run on the same key as the rest of the openings.
4) What do I have to specify when ordering Emtek 1761 multi point trim?
Five things beyond the finish. Lever style (Aurora, Bryce, Cimarron, Cody, Durango, Lariat, Mariposa, Montrose, Teton, or Yuma), handing (right or left), keyway (Schlage or Weiser WR5), keying (keyed different or keyed alike, plus a key code if you are matching an existing system), and door thickness. Handing and lever are required choices, not defaults, so a purchase order that omits them cannot be built.
5) Does the Emtek 1761 need to be handed, and can I change the hand later?
It has to be handed at the time of order, right hand or left hand. This is not a field-reversible trim, so establish the hand from outside the door: if the hinges are on your right as you face the door from the exterior, it is right hand. Getting it wrong on a keyed multi point set means the cylinder ends up on the wrong side of the handle relative to the prep.
6) My American cylinder sits below the handle, not above. Is the Emtek 1761 the right trim?
No. The 1761 is built with the cylinder hub above the handle on Emtek's Configuration #7. A door prepped with the cylinder below the handle takes a different Emtek multi point configuration, and the plate holes will not line up if you force this one. Same story if your center-to-center is not 6 inches.
7) Is there a thumbturn on the inside of the Emtek 1761, or a key both sides?
Single cylinder. The 1761 is keyed from the outside with one American cylinder and operates without a key from the inside, which is the normal arrangement for a swinging patio door. There is no second keyed cylinder in this set.
8) Which levers work with the Emtek 1761 sandcast bronze plates?
Any lever in Emtek's Sandcast Bronze collection pairs with these plates. Ten are offered on this trim: Aurora, Bryce, Cimarron, Cody, Durango, Lariat, Mariposa, Montrose, Teton, and Yuma. Because the plate and lever are both sandcast bronze from the same collection, the patio door can be matched to bronze levers already on the entry and interior doors.
9) How much plate area does the Emtek 1761 cover, and will it hide the marks from my old trim?
The plates are rectangular and measure 2 x 10 inches. That is a fairly narrow escutcheon, so if your previous trim had a wider or taller plate you will see the outline of it on the door face. Check the footprint of what is coming off against 2 by 10 before you commit.
10) Is Emtek 1761 multi point trim suitable for a commercial building entrance?
It is residential hardware. Emtek classifies this sandcast bronze multi point trim as residential, and it is built for swinging patio doors on homes rather than for commercial traffic or code-driven openings. For a commercial entrance, look at a Grade 1 or Grade 2 commercial mortise or cylindrical lockset instead.
11) What finishes does the Emtek 1761 sandcast bronze trim come in, and will they stay uniform across a house?
Three: Flat Black Bronze (FB), Medium Bronze (MB), and Tumbled White Bronze (TWB). All three are available with either the Schlage or the Weiser WR5 keyway, so the keying choice does not limit the finish. These are sandcast bronze, a living finish family, so plan on ordering all openings in one finish code at the same time if you want them to read the same.
12) Is the Emtek 1761 an electronic or smart lock?
