Emtek 1382-US15 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Emtek 1382 multi point trim include the multi point mortise lock body?
No. The Emtek 1382 is trim only: plates and handles for a swinging patio door. The multi point mortise lock box has to come separately, either from the door manufacturer or ordered as its own item. If your existing multi point gearbox is sound and you only want new handles and plates, this is the right kind of part; if the gearbox itself is failing, trim alone won't fix it.
2) What door thickness and backset does the Emtek Concord 1382 trim work with?
It covers 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors, and the backset is adjustable between 2-3/8 inch and 2-3/4 inch, which are the two standard bore backsets. Cross bore is 2-1/8 inch. Door thickness is also an entry field when you order, so give the actual measured thickness of your patio door slab rather than assuming.
3) What does Door Configuration #3 mean on Emtek multi point trim?
Emtek groups multi point trim by the arrangement of handle and cylinder on the plate, and the 1382 is Configuration #3 with the cylinder position above the handle. Because this one is non-keyed passage, that position is not cut for a key, so the plate matches the appearance of a keyed Config #3 unit on the other leaf without giving you a lock. Configuration has to match the prep in your door; a plate drilled for a different layout will not line up.
4) Is the Emtek 1382 a locking handle set for a patio door?
No, it's passage function and non-keyed. Turning the lever retracts the latch, there is no key and no thumbturn locking built into the trim. It's the right choice for the inactive or interior side of a French or swinging patio door pair, or where a homeowner doesn't want a keyed exterior. If you need to lock the opening, you want the keyed version of the same Concord configuration instead.
5) What do I have to specify when ordering the Emtek 1382?
Four things: finish, lever style, handing, and door thickness. Finish comes in eight choices, handing is right or left hand, and the lever list runs 51 styles from the L-Square, T-Bar and R-Bar bar levers through cast designs like Athena, Luzern, Cortina, Milano, Rope and Arts and Crafts. Door thickness is a free-text entry, so measure the slab.
6) Why do the levers sag on my old patio door handle set, and does this trim fix that?
Sagging levers are usually a worn or missing spring in the trim. Emtek's current multi point trim, including the 1382, ships with a Spring Assist function that returns the lever to the neutral horizontal position, so replacing tired trim with this addresses the droop without touching the gearbox.
7) Is the Emtek 1382 rated for a commercial entrance or a heavy traffic door?
It's a residential product. For apartment or condo unit patio doors in a managed property it's appropriate, but for a commercial storefront or a high-cycle institutional opening you'd be looking at a different class of hardware entirely. Construction is solid brass plate and handle.
8) Can I mix lever styles or match this to the rest of my Emtek brass hardware?
The 1382 takes any Emtek brass lever, so you can carry the same lever design from your interior doors onto the patio opening and keep one finish across the house. Plate style here is Concord at 2 by 10-1/2 inches, in the Emtek Brass collection.
9) Which finishes does the Emtek Concord brass multi point trim come in?
Eight: Oil Rubbed Bronze (US10B), Satin Nickel (US15), Pewter (US15A), Flat Black (US19), Polished Chrome (US26), Polished Brass Lifetime (US3), Unlacquered Brass (US3NL), and French Antique (US7). Unlacquered brass is the one to pick if you want the metal to patina over time; the Lifetime polished brass is meant to hold its shine. On an exterior patio door in a coastal or high-sun exposure, that distinction matters more than the color does.
10) What latch faceplate corner style comes with this Emtek multi point trim?
The latch faceplate is available round corner or square corner, so it can drop into either style of mortise pocket already cut in the door edge. Look at the existing faceplate before ordering and match the corner radius.
11) Is there a keypad or electronic option on the Emtek 1382 Concord trim?
No, it's strictly mechanical trim with no electronic component and no keyway. If you want keyless entry on a multi point patio door you need a different Emtek multi point product line, not this one.
