Emtek 1682-US15 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Emtek 1682 Concord multipoint trim include the multipoint lock body?
No. The Emtek 1682 Concord set is trim only: plates and handles. The multipoint mortise lock box is separate and has to be ordered or already be in the door. If you are replacing worn handles on an existing swinging patio door that already has a working multipoint gearbox, trim-only is exactly what you want.
2) Will the Emtek 1682 trim fit my Pella or Milgard swinging patio door?
The 1682 is built to the Door Configuration #6 hole pattern, and Milgard and Pella are the reference door manufacturers for that layout. Config #6 puts the cylinder below the handle with 3-5/8 inch center-to-center between the handle spindle and the cylinder hole. Measure that 3-5/8 inch dimension on your door before ordering, since it is what decides whether the plate lines up.
3) Passage function on a patio door trim, what does that actually mean here?
Non-keyed passage means the 1682 has no cylinder and no key operation. The levers simply retract the latch and throw the multipoint points via the gearbox. Use it on an interior-side-only opening or a second door where the locking is handled elsewhere. If the door needs to key from outside, this is the wrong trim, you need a keyed version of the Config #6 trim.
4) What door thickness and backset does the Emtek Concord multipoint trim work with?
Doors from 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inches thick, with an adjustable backset of 2-3/8 or 2-3/4 inches and a 2-1/8 inch cross bore. Those are the standard residential numbers, so a typical patio or entry slab takes it without rework. Door thickness is a field you fill in when ordering.
5) Do I have to specify handing on the Emtek 1682?
Yes, right hand or left hand is required at order time, along with a lever style. Handing on a patio door is called from the hinge side with the door swinging toward you. Get it wrong and the lever and plate orientation will not suit the opening.
6) How big are the Concord plates on the Emtek 1682?
The Concord plate measures 2 by 10-1/2 inches. On a narrow patio door stile, check that you have the width for a 2 inch plate and enough clear run for 10-1/2 inches without hitting glass stops or the door frame.
7) What finishes does the Emtek 1682 Concord trim come in?
Eight: Oil Rubbed Bronze (US10B), Satin Nickel (US15), Pewter (US15A), Flat Black (US19), Polished Chrome (US26), Polished Brass Lifetime (US3), Unlacquered Brass (US3NL), and French Antique (US7). If you are matching other openings in the house, note that Unlacquered Brass is a living finish and will patina, while Polished Brass Lifetime holds its appearance.
8) Can I match the lever on this multipoint trim to the rest of my brass door hardware?
Yes. The plates are solid brass and the trim accepts any Emtek brass lever, with 51 styles to pick from, ranging from L-Square, T-Bar and R-Bar contemporary bars to Cortina, Milano, Rope, Rustic and Arts and Crafts. Choosing the same lever and finish you used on interior doors is how most people get the patio door to read as part of the set.
9) Will these levers sag over time like the old patio handles?
No. Emtek multipoint trim now ships with a Spring Assist function that returns the lever to neutral, which is what prevents the drooping handle you see on older patio sets. That makes it a sensible upgrade if you are replacing sagging trim on a door whose gearbox is still good.
10) Is the Emtek 1682 rated for commercial traffic?
It is a residential product. For a multifamily unit patio door it is fine, but for a high-traffic commercial entrance specify a commercial-grade lockset instead.
11) If I later add a keyed version, what cylinder does this Config #6 layout take?
The Config #6 trim platform uses an American-classification cylinder positioned below the handle. The 1682 itself is non-keyed passage, so there is no cylinder in this set, but the prep and cylinder type are what a keyed sibling in the same configuration works with.
12) Round or square corner latch faceplate, which do I need?
Both are covered. Pull your existing latch and look at the faceplate mortise in the door edge: a router-cut pocket takes the round corner plate, a chiseled square pocket takes the square corner. Matching it avoids patching the door edge.
