Emtek 14B2-US19 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Emtek 14B2 multi point trim include the multi point lock body, or just the handles?
Trim only. The 14B2 set gives you the brass plates and the handles; the multi point mortise lock box is not part of it and has to be sourced separately. If your door already has a working multi point gear in it and you're replacing tired or dated handles, that's exactly what this covers. If the gear itself is broken, the trim won't fix it.
2) What door manufacturers does the Emtek 14B2 Door Config #4 trim fit?
Emtek lists Door Config #4 against Ashland, G-U, Caradco, JELD-WEN, Jeldwen Custom Collection (formerly Pozzi), Marvin, PGT, Premium Collection (formerly Norco) and Weathershield swinging patio doors. The config number is the important part: it describes the hole pattern in the door, so match your existing prep to #4 rather than going by the brand badge alone.
3) My multi point patio door handle sags. Does new Emtek trim fix that?
That's the failure this trim addresses. Emtek multi point trim now ships with a spring assist that returns the lever to neutral, which is what stops the drooping handle you get once the original spring cage in old trim gives up. For a property manager with a run of patio doors doing the same thing, replacing the trim is the repair, since the gear in the door is usually still fine.
4) Is the Emtek 14B2 passage trim keyed, and can I lock the patio door with it?
Non-keyed passage. The 14B2 has no cylinder and no key function in the trim itself, so it operates the multi point gear to throw and retract the points but gives you no key control from outside. On a pair of patio doors it's the usual choice for the inactive or interior leaf. If you need to key the opening, you want a keyed version of the trim instead.
5) Will Emtek 14B2 multi point trim work on a 1-3/4 inch door?
Yes, and on anything from 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inches. Door thickness is an entry you fill in when ordering, so give your actual measured thickness rather than assuming, especially on older wood patio doors that can land between the two. The backset adjusts between 2-3/8 and 2-3/4 inches, the two standard backsets you'll find prepped.
6) Do I have to specify handing when ordering Emtek 14B2 multi point trim?
Handing is required, right hand or left hand, and it's not something you can flip in the field on this trim. Stand outside the door: if the hinges are on your right it's a right hand door. Get it wrong on a patio slider replacement and the lever pitches the wrong way. Lever style is also a required selection, and door thickness is an optional field you should fill in with your measured thickness.
7) What lever styles can I put on the Emtek 14B2 modern multi point trim?
Any Emtek brass lever, and the choice is wide: the modern bar families (L-Square, T-Bar and R-Bar, each in Faceted, Hammered, Knurled, Tribeca, Straight Knurled and White Marble), the classical group (Athena, Helios, Hermes, Poseidon, Luzern, Stuttgart), and traditional profiles like Cortina, Milano, Turino, Merrimack, Coventry, Rope, Ribbon and Reed, Rustic, Santa Fe, Wembley, Arts and Crafts and Hammered. The plate is a 2 by 10 inch modern rectangle, so a heavily traditional lever on it is a mixed look. Match the lever to the passage sets already on your other doors and the patio opening reads as part of the house.
8) What finishes does the Emtek 14B2 brass multi point trim come in?
Seven: Oil Rubbed Bronze (US10B), Polished Nickel Lifetime (US14), Satin Nickel (US15), Flat Black (US19), Polished Chrome (US26), Unlacquered Brass (US3NL) and Satin Brass (US4). Unlacquered brass is the one to think twice about on a patio door, since it has no clear coat and will patina with weather and hand traffic. If you want it to stay bright, take a lacquered or plated finish instead.
9) If I want a keyed exterior handle on my patio door, is the 14B2 the wrong trim?
For the outside leaf, yes. The 14B2 is passage only, no cylinder in it, so the exterior side gets no key control. Config #4 positions the cylinder above the handle at 3-5/8 inch center to center, so the keyed trim in that same configuration is what goes on the active exterior door, with the passage 14B2 on the interior or inactive leaf.
10) What kind of cylinder does Emtek Door Config #4 multi point trim take?
American standard cylinder format, mounted above the handle. That matters if you're keying a whole house alike: the keyed trim in this configuration takes an American cylinder, so it can be pinned to the same keyway as the rest of your Emtek entry hardware. The 14B2 passage version itself carries no cylinder.
