Emtek 1661-FB – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Emtek 1661 multi point trim include the multi point mortise lock body?
No. The 1661 is trim only: two plates, the handles, and the cylinder. The multi point mortise lock box has to be sourced separately, so this is what you order when the lock body is already in the door or is coming with the door from the manufacturer. Budget for the lock case as a separate line if you are building a new opening.
2) Will the Emtek 1661 trim fit a Milgard or Pella swinging patio door?
Milgard and Pella are the reference door manufacturers for this trim, and it is built to Door Configuration #6 with a 3-5/8 inch center-to-center between the cylinder and the handle hub. Match your existing lock body's configuration and CTC before ordering, because Emtek splits this range by door config number and a #6 plate will not line up on a door prepped for another configuration.
3) Can I key this Emtek patio door trim alike with my Schlage or Weiser house keys?
Yes. The 1661 uses an American cylinder and can be ordered in either the Schlage keyway (standard) or the Weiser WR5 keyway, so it can be keyed into an existing residential system on either of those. Keying is specified on the order: keyed different or keyed alike, with an optional key-to-code field if you are matching an existing bitting. It is a single cylinder function, so key outside, thumbturn or interior lever operation inside.
4) What do I have to specify when ordering Emtek 1661 sandcast bronze multi point trim?
Five things are set at order time. Handing (right or left hand), lever style from the ten sandcast bronze levers (Aurora, Bryce, Cimarron, Cody, Durango, Lariat, Mariposa, Montrose, Teton, Yuma), keyway (Schlage standard or Weiser WR5), finish (Flat Black Bronze, Medium Bronze, or Tumbled White Bronze), and keying (keyed different or keyed alike, plus a key code if you have one). Door thickness can also be entered. The plates themselves are fixed at 2 x 10 inches, rectangular.
5) Does handing matter on Emtek multi point lock trim, and how do I get it right?
Handing matters here. The 1661 is ordered as right hand or left hand and cannot be flipped in the field. Stand outside the door: if the hinges are on your right it is right hand, on your left it is left hand. Get it wrong and the lever pitches the wrong way against the plate.
6) My multi point patio door handles sag. Does this Emtek trim fix that?
Yes, sagging levers are exactly what the current 1661 trim addresses. Every Emtek multi point trim now ships with the Spring Assist function, which returns the lever to neutral instead of letting it droop over time. If you are replacing an older set of Emtek multi point trim on a Config #6 door for that reason, the spring assist is the difference.
7) Is this Emtek trim rated for a commercial entrance or apartment building corridor?
The 1661 is a residential product, sold as swinging patio door hardware in sandcast bronze. For single-family homes, custom residential, and high-end multi-family unit patio doors it is the right category. For a commercial entrance or a code-driven opening in an institutional building, specify commercial-grade lock hardware instead.
8) Will Emtek 1661 sandcast bronze plates match the rest of my Emtek door hardware?
The 1661 is part of Emtek's Sandcast Bronze collection, solid bronze, in Flat Black Bronze, Medium Bronze, or Tumbled White Bronze. Those are the same collection finishes used across Emtek's sandcast entry sets and interior levers, so a patio door done in this trim matches the front door and passage sets in the same finish. If your existing hardware is Emtek's brass or stainless lines, the finish names will not cross over.
9) Is the Emtek 1661 multi point trim electronic or does it take a keypad?
Mechanical only. The 1661 is a keyed mechanical trim with an American cylinder below the handle, no electronics, no keypad, no wiring at the door. If you want code or smart entry on a patio door, that is a different product family.
10) How big are the plates on the Emtek 1661 multi point trim, and will they cover my old hardware's marks?
Each plate measures 2 x 10 inches in a rectangular profile with square corners. That is a fairly narrow, tall plate, so it covers a vertical run on the stile but only two inches across. If the trim you are removing was wider, or left a screw pattern outside a 2 inch width, plan on touch-up. The 2 inch width also means you need at least that much flat stile face clear of glass stops and weatherstrip.
