Emtek 1814-FB – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Emtek 1814 multi point trim include the multi point lock mechanism?
No. The 1814 is trim only, plates and handles. The multi point mortise lock box has to be sourced separately, so if you are replacing worn handles on a working patio door this is the right part, but a new install still needs the lock body.
2) What does Door Configuration #8 mean on Emtek multi point trim?
Configuration #8 is the non-keyed setup for a semi-active (inactive) leaf of a swinging patio door pair: a fixed, non-operating handle on the exterior and an operating lever on the interior. There is no cylinder in this configuration, so it is not the one to use on the door you key and enter through.
3) Will the Emtek 1814 trim line up with my existing multi point lock handle holes?
The handle spindle to cylinder hole spacing is 5-1/4 inches center-to-center, with the cylinder location above the handle. Measure your door's existing prep against that 5-1/4 inch dimension. If your lock uses a different spacing, the plate will not drop onto the existing holes.
4) Do I have to specify handing and lever style when ordering the Emtek 1814?
Yes, both are required. Handing is right hand or left hand, and you pick one of ten Sandcast Bronze levers: Aurora, Bryce, Cimarron, Cody, Durango, Lariat, Mariposa, Montrose, Teton or Yuma. There is also an optional field for door thickness. Get handing wrong on a semi-active leaf and the interior lever ends up pointing the wrong way.
5) If I need a keyed handle on the active door, is the 1814 the right trim?
No. The 1814 has no cylinder at all, it is the non-keyed semi-active trim. For the active leaf you need a keyed Emtek multi point configuration. When you do order keyed trim in this family, the cylinder is American classification and sits above the handle, so keep that consistent across both leaves for a matching look.
6) How big are the Emtek 1814 arched plates?
Each plate measures 1-1/2 x 11 inches in the arched profile. That narrow width matters on patio and French doors with slim stiles, so check your stile face is wide enough to carry an 1-1/2 inch plate cleanly alongside the glass stop.
7) What finishes does the Emtek 1814 sandcast bronze trim come in?
Three: Flat Black Bronze (FB), Medium Bronze (MB) and Tumbled White Bronze (TWB). All are Sandcast Bronze, so the plates and levers will match other Emtek Sandcast Bronze hardware on the same opening.
8) Will this Emtek trim stop my patio door levers from sagging?
Yes. The trim now ships with a spring assist that returns the lever to neutral, which is what cures the drooping handle that shows up on older multi point patio doors.
9) Which door brand is the Emtek 1814 configuration referenced to?
Neuma Doors is the referenced door manufacturer for this configuration. If your patio door is a Neuma, the Config #8 prep and the 5-1/4 inch center-to-center should line up; on another brand, verify the prep first.
10) Is the Emtek 1814 multi point trim suitable for a commercial building entrance?
It is a residential product, sandcast bronze swinging patio door trim. For a commercial storefront or a high traffic institutional entry you want a Grade 1 commercial lockset rather than this.
11) Is the Emtek 1814 an electronic or smart lock trim?
No, it is fully mechanical trim with no electronics. Nothing to wire, no battery pack, no access control integration.
